Sarsa: Damn Good Food

For a couple of weeks now, I usually see myself in the middle of the night driving to this quiet side of BGC to get a fix from McDonald's. (I know.. fastfood and its charms...of being open 24/7 )
During the wee hours of the night or early morning for breakfast, I get to roam around the place and see a couple of interesting restaurants. One of them is Sarsa.

Thanks a lot fax.. and yes... TWD rules!!!
You see, I won a shirt from Fox (wuhooo) and since I had to pick it up at BGC, I took it as a chance to have a lunch time date with my mom...yey! just the two of us.

It wasn't really scheduled and all but heck, we tried out this place.
Sarsa or sauces is a place where one could eat straight forward good old home cooking that could be the best of traditional Filipino and Negrense dishes. Nothing super fancy but delicious and definitely a  fun filled foodie experience.

Since it was a weekday, (I would suggest calling in ahead for reservations for weekends and dinner), my mom and I got a seat right away. Although the place is good for around 80-100 pax, it was almost full when we got there. We were damn lucky.

Got a table and these were present:
Achuete oil, Sinamak and Soy Sauce. Different sarsa to have a delicious meal ahead.

When I saw the menu I wanted to order everything just to taste authentic Negrense Food. Grabeeeeee!! Tulo laway mode on!

Started off with somethings to munch on. Crispy Dilis (110Php)
A different take on this usual dish. Pineapple based glazed with chili. Definitely HOT!!
and here comes Panit (170Php)
This is chicken skin my friends... YOLO!!!!
So.. you better taste its goodness and feel how it melts in your mouth! Damn good with the sauces!
Also tried the Isol (170Php) or chicken tail.
The juicy part of the chicken! Yummy!!! Right ratio of skin to meat.. 50-50!!!

Pritchon Pancake (220Php) is their take on the "peking duck wrap".
Although flavorful, the sauce was a little bit too much.
For veggies.. (yes we needed to balance the meal..LOL.)we had the roasted kalabasa with green beans and crispy dilis (175Php)
Back when I was a kid I could remember that I always eat kalabasa and it mushed and mixed with rice and I used to eat it every single day. Tasting this, I believe, I would and could eat this every single day! Promise! The fried tofu and the beans went well with the mashed kalabasa. It was infused with gata or coconut milk. Subtle yet it was there. Definitely delicious!

and here comes the heavy weights:

Sizzling kansi (bulalo 350Php)
Not your ordinary bulalo. The meat was tender and the sauce was epic!!! It wasn't the usual plain butter sauce. It had a different taste on it! Grabe bring me the rice...!!! But wait.. there is still one more dish...

The inasal sisig (320Php)
woah!!! straight up sisig made with chicken meat. The gracious staff even offered to mix it up for us but I refused since I had to take a photo of it. LOL! It was great! especially when mixed up with the sauces.. damn now bring me the rice!!

This rice is no ordinary rice. The ginamos fried rice (55Php) was not normal.
It wasn't too salty and works well with everything on the menu. Damn the saying of ordering plain rice to taste everything. This definitely would make the flavors come out and will make you eat with gusto...

Excellent food and service. The sauces made us eat a lot. Grabe! Totally worth going back too. Budget around 400-500Php per person. Why no chicken inasal in the review? Well, I got one for my bro but it was devoured when we got back home so I wasn't able to taste/take a pic of it. Hmmm negative side of the resto? That would be the parking. There is a limited space at the back. It seems the nearest area to park at would be at the Strip. oh.. and wouldn't you know, the lot beside the forum, is used as a drop off and pickup of helicopters. Cool right? ...

Foodgasm IV: A Foodie Experience

Look ma... I have my blog on a poster.. LOL!
"Let's go".... and with those words, my friends and I found ourselves roaming Mercato Centrale and discovering the winner of Foodgasm IV.

A week or so ago, I was invited to be one of the judges of a food tasting event organized by UP Ecosoc (click).  I was pretty excited as it was one of those times that I am able to try doing something new. I mean it was not always I get to taste a number of dishes in a short period of time.
Because of the heavy traffic on Edsa, my friends and I arrived a little late. But no matter, it just made the experience more wild as there were a lot of participants and a lot of foodies roaming and tasting a lot of different sweets and savory delicacies.

Each one is given a score sheet. It serves as a checklist and as a score card for everyone. You get to rank each dish and vote for your preference.  tired from roaming around? They had bands playing and even some games to get everyone started. From food guessing games to eating contest, a lot of prices were given away. Well mostly, beer.

Although most of the offerings were sweets and pastries, there were some standouts that I enjoyed that night (and yes some of my picks were chosen as winners too).

1st one would be niku niku's crabstick. This year's winner of people choice award.
The team kept the presentation clean and always ready for the taking. My friends and I enjoyed this deep fried light snack.
The team behind the crabsticks.
Next up is the winner of the most innovative dish. Country Fries
Mixed with toppings that spell Japanese. From seaweeds to the mayo and cheese
I got to give it to their staff as they were perky when it comes to spreading the word about their product.

The expert's choice went to Ruby Red Kitchen. They actually had 2 entries so it was kinda cool that they delivered it well.

They had two varieties. One was savory and would go great with anything to dip with. While the other one was sweet and tasty.
They were pretty busy too :D
Of course, from all of the participants, there could only be one. The winner for this year's FOODGASM is
Hunger Buster's Dying Burger.

The burger were freshly made on site. It was kinda filling even if they served mini burgers.

Mushrooms, bacon, and cheese nothing could go wrong with that!

Pretty much hard work + dedication = win!!

And here's the winning team!!!

Of course, each of the participants deserve special mention, but I got to show you first how full my plate was:
My first plate:

2nd plate with still unfisinished stuff from the 1st wave.
Special mentions:  Pescado gourment tuyo made into pasta.
A little salty but great with chili to make it sppppicy hot!
Group behind the tuyo
and I saw some balls!!!

not just any balls but my kind of balls!!! LOL! These were pork hamonado flavored chorizo de Cebu. Sweet! Add some vinegar and you are good to go..but wait get some rice too!!!
sweet and cool longganisa like balls.
I also enjoyed Babci Kuchnia's Polish Pierogi. It was the most different dish I had that night.
These Polish Dumplings had caramelized onion, sour cream and bacon on top. Nice little snack.
Of course, I had a few more photos to share this awesome night.
Niku Niku: People's Choice
Most Innovative: Country Fries
Expert's Choice: Ruby Red Kitchen.
Other Participants:
Awesome Leche Flan!
Oreo Whoopie Cupcakes
Cuptain Cakes
Most ambitious: Baking Bad Bacon Cookies.
It was also nice to meet new and old blogger friends. It was great seeing Edel of The Kitchen Goddess Files, Ethel of Lifestyle Manila, Raffy of goautodial, and Ron of work at home.

Here is a photo list of  other participants and their entries (in no particular order) :

Was really curious about this place, so I asked my family to join me and to give it a try.
So one lazy morning driver in towed (thank you kuya!), we went on over to Makati to have a Sunday Brunch.

Unimpressed. That my friend was what I felt when I entered the restaurant/ dining area of this hotel. I wasn't expecting much but would you blame me if that is how I felt when I saw this
and that is the whole restaurant except for 4-5 couches on the left side.
and yes... the counters on the background is all the buffet food they offer.

I hoped that the quality and the offerings they have would be worth the visit. I was praying to the food gods that they made the chef's hands do wonderful things for our brunch.

Anyway here are some if not most of the food in the buffet:
 Sausage, bacon and benedict
 Potato with bacon...
 Roast beef..dry...
 make your own noodles.

and they have a kiddie section.. which I actually enjoyed more than what they offered for the adults.
 Pizza.
 Pasta
 Their take on pie.
 The salad...
Some dips.
and the dessert area: cakes, banoffee, make your own halo halo and soft served ice cream.

They offered to grill some fish/meat for you but it wasn't that appetizing as they were all pre-marinated with the "tandoori" flavor. They got a bread station but didn't offer cheese. They have a few other offerings in chaffing dishes like chili crabs and beef stroganoff (skip.. not worth it). Their sushi/Japanese station consist of a chef doing 2 kinds of rolls (no tempuras for lovers out there and don't get me started on the quality of those rolls...). They keep their salmon away from the public eye so if you are going, ask for it specifically.

The only part of the dessert I liked was this:
Tip: use the glass for the halo-halo
After the long trip and the effort we made to traveling down south, I was a little disappointed with the food offered. I mean, for the price, it is not worth it. We could have had a better and cheaper meal outside. I was hoping that the mixed feedback I got weren't true, sadly it was. I just pray that the Holiday Inn gets their act together and offer scrumptious meal so that everyone goes home happy and with full tummy! I am sorry if I am frank about it but I can't see myself (nor my family) going back. Although the service was okay, the food was not so...

P.S. ... It seems the nights are getting colder while the days are getting hotter...
I miss going out in the middle of the night for a snack like this. I know it isn't cafe shibuya (click) quality but for something in the 100Php region and open during late at night-almost 24 hours during weekdays, Once Upon A Milkshake's version is good on its own.

Brasserie Cicou: Show me the Frenchie!!!

One quiet Sunday afternoon, after watching a movie, my family and I had a dinner date. We opted to try something different. Since my dad doesn't really eat French food (totally foreign to his taste buds), we tricked and lured him into trying this restaurant out.

When entering, the place exudes a friendly hung out for the family or a venue for a lovely date. They have couches in the back for a laid back feel and tables for those heavy dinners in front.
One of the best table in the resto..and yes they have a chef's table also if you are into watching cooking master chef!!
With French Cuisine as their main offering, you can't help but be wowed with their menu and drink list. Simple and straight to the point.
Originally located in Makati, this restaurant was reinvented and is now around 2 years old in its present location in Greenhills.
For drinks, I would have ordered something more potent than the ice tea but I was with the parentals. So, I got a refillable glass of brewed iced tea. Sweet and refreshing.

Dad started the meal on a healthy note. So he got an order of Ceasar Salad (360Php).
Romaine, Anchovies, Bacon, Parmesan, and Croutons. Made fresh!! The anchovies gave it a little salty kick. I also tasted something fruity taste in it.

A complimentary basket of bread was also served.
Warm and soft inside. Crunchy outside

Great in siphoning out the juices from the escargot.
Yeap! We got an order of Les Escargot a la Francaise (498/958Php)
SNAILS!!!! Fresh herbs, butter and garlic.
The meat was big and the sauce was undeniably butter loaded!!! OMG! Slurpyy!
Dad went for a steak since it was one of the few things that he was familiar with. LOL!
He got the US Beef Tenderloin (1,200Php)
Served with Cauliflower Mash, Pepper sauce. It was soft and tender. Would have wanted more, according to him. It was juicy!

Mom wasn't feeling adventurous so she got Chicken Breast Fillet (498 Php)
Roasted with Rosemary and Garlic, Mashed Potato. Moist chicken meat.
It tasted like adobo according to her.
My little bro got an order of Onglet Poele (650Php).
Pan Seared Us Hanging Beef Tender, Home Made Fries and Romaine Salad. Tender, juicy and damn good. My brother finished this up! Totally! The serving size and the quality is well worth the price tag.

I, got something else, Pan Seared Foie Gras (600Php)!
Poached Pears in sweet white wine, Honey Beet Root Compote, Beet root petals, Mesclun Salad, Beet Root Gastrique.

Juicy stuff. Mix it all up and the texture plus the flavor blows in my mouth.
Of course I do not live on fatty liver alone, so I also got an order of Coquilletes (420Php)
Something like mac and cheese with bacon and ham and everything good. Yummy!!!

The place is ideal for Sunday Brunch, or a time to catch up with friends over wine and tapas.... and also maybe dinner date with a special someone. Although a bit pricey, the food quality and service makes up for it and worth every penny. Thank you so much to Kim for being knowledgeable about the different offerings on the menu. Service was fast and efficient. Budget around 750-1000Php per person if you are a heavy eater. Would definitely be back and hopefully next time, its with a date. LOL!

Breakfast of Champions : IHOP and Pancake House

Shot from Vanilla Cupcake Bakery
Seeing something like this makes me think about being sweet... NOT!!! NO WAY!!!
Dude Breakfast is sweet!!! It is the most important meal of the day. And yet I can't seem to wake up early for something like that. Good thing there are restaurants that serves all day breakfast.

I became a little breakfast hungry. As in H-U-N-G-R-Y! Frenzy came over me that I went to these 2 restaurants on 2 consecutive days just for Breakfast in BGC. I don't know but these were the usual breakfast place that are open early.. well aside from Recovery Food (click)

Since time immemorial, Pancake house has been a leader in the Philippine scene in terms of serving honest to goodness Filipino Breakfast Food. I would remember my family and I going to Sm Annex every week or so just to get a bite from their breakfast menu. Yes, that was when I was in elementary. I think around grade 4 or 5. It has been that long that this chain of restaurants has been thriving and succeeding in the field of breakfast!!! (click)

Taco salad (235Php) is fresh and crunchy.
The vinaigrette was not too sweet and just right. The veggies were fresh and yes there are some chippy involved. Sounds strange? Well not to my mouth. LOL!

One breakfast dish that I love getting from PH would be their take on Toccino (202Php).
The meat is pretty sweet and soft. It isn't hard and not overcooked. It goes really well with their garlic rice.

Since my companion wanted something "healthy", she went on ordering some sweet and sour fish.
I tasted it and it didn't taste like fish! Really good for an alternative to all the pork and chicken during breakfast.

It was funny when I ordered the Roast Chicken. This PH classic has been a go to order for someone like me.
My friend really thought that the potato salad was ice cream. I don't know but it made me laugh early in the morning!!!!
The chicken meat was moist and the gravy was spot on. The bread was thick but it didn't ruin the taste . End of day 1.

What can I say but BUSOG (stuffed)! Price to quality ratio was great. Service was there and I enjoyed my coffee pretty well. On to my next day breakfast!!...

Second day of eating breakfast in BGC was somewhat forced on me. I know.. its just unhealthy not eating breakfast so I should follow what the doctor says, and go for it. LOL!

IHOP or International House of Pancakes is an American brand brought to Manila by the same group responsible for CPK. I have the utmost respect for CPK since I really love their food. It was definitely a welcome to the Manila food scene. There was a lot of hype with it. Lines were present almost daily, when it first arrived. Waiting would be around 1-2 hours just to get seats. Really Over HYPED!!!

I was actually pushed to eat in IHOP. :( Yeah even after my bad and worst experience (click for BGC's and click for UP Town Center Spider Experience). I didn't want to but well it was like there was no other breakfast place open early in the morning. LOL!

I ordered the only thing that made me happy in IHOP. Hashbrown (84.82Php)
Deep fried shredded potatoes. You can't go wrong with potatoes and it being fried up! I was contented with this and my unlicup of coffee.

My friend, on the other hand, was going healthy. According to her, she can't eat anything meaty. (this is me, making a sarcastic face!!!)
Got an order of Spinach and Mushroom Omelette.  (325.89Php) Yeah right!
It was dry in the center. She just got 1/3 of it and stopped.

Also came with a side of pancake. Not worth it. Didn't touch it nor did she.
Since their other fish dishes were out, she also ordered some crunchy shrimps (486.75 Php)
Small shrimps. Deep fried. Too oily. Not worth it. Skip.
The other thing that saved the day would be the drinks, while I had the coffee she went for tea. Well, just thinking about it, coffee is the same with other places while the tea is just Twinings and hot water.

Takaw tingin. Or hungry look. The marketing of IHOP made sure that people would over order. Apparently, this was the case.  She had a "bigger appetite" than I had. Definitely, she went over and didn't finish everything. I think I need to remind myself to be the one to order next time and stop her from going over the top. I guess just a simple reminder to everyone. Be careful of what you order! LOL!

Service was there and always present to the point it was a bit irritating because I could see the staff starring at us. I guess better than the last time where I was looking for a staff. Anyway, the price was definitely over the top. A bit too much if you asked me.

Comparing PH and IHOP, I would definitely say that PH would win by a mile. The fact that it stayed on over for a long long time and that they rolled with the punches, PH definitely is in front. Honestly, IHOP has the potential of being a real competitor and not just ride on over with the hype. After seeing long lines for a month or so, you could definitely see the place vacant from time to time.

Price and quality would go to PH. Affordable yet there. Service is same for both. PH is good every 2 weeks while IHOP maybe once every 6 months just to see their new offerings and if they have improved.

Disclaimer: Paid for our meals, wrote this based on my own opinion and experience.
Did you know that IHOP (branch in BGC) didn't have any spoons? LOL! Now that they started offering Filipino Breakfast Food, maybe they'll start having spoons in? LOL!!!

Revisiting B&P on Two Straight Saturdays.

The sign said close but I called in the day before to check its operating hours. It was a few minutes past 7. The kind staff turned the sign around and we were welcomed with a smile and with "welcome home" greetings.

Yes another breakfast. I had been on two breakfast on two consecutive days in BGC that I couldn't get enough. So hello hello I am back at B&P (click). I went here a month or so with some bloggers and this time around I went with friends on two consecutive Saturdays... Talk about "addict".

With its quirky takes on naming the different dishes on the menu, this place offers home cooked meals that hits the spot and makes you feel on cloud nine.

Although, the place can accommodate a few dinners at most, it would be welcomed sight that they have an al-fresco dinning area outside.

And yes, for those techies, they do have wifi. One thing to wait for would be when they roll out their planned use if IPADs as menu and a way to place orders.

As a breakfast place, they offer a lot of omelettes and eggs. Salmon and Eggs are those for nagpapanggap na trying to be healthy. Although the eggs were poached and salmon is plain, it still had fries. LOL
Deep fried stuff still!!!! Yahoo!

The heat is on would be eggs with spiced up meat and some peppers. Cooked right and great for those loving to just spice up their day. It isn't too much but really helps the appetite started.

Don Malutong or crispy bacon like meat served with rice and egg is for those unhealthy eaters like me! The crispy stuff is great for any crunchy lover that the rice served isn't enough.

Salpy Cow  is their salpicao. The taste is not too garlicky nor is it overwhelming. The meat is soft and tender. Everyone loved the taste. Not too strong too!!! Just the way I liked them.

For the mains, B&P offers 2 distinct stuff on the menu.
They serve it juicy and hot. The meat was soft and moist. They weren't over cooked and seriously for sharing! The baby back rib's meat fell off the bones. The sauce not too sweet and made it great for dipping the fries on it.
The chicx were deep fried and yet not too oily. Properly seasoned and definitely great with rice! Here's a tip...put the gravy on rice!! You won't regret it.
and for those guys...that are smart... go for the french bread. KEEP IT FOR YOURSELF!!! I liked every bit of it that I wanted to kip it for myself. I was actually looking for it on the menu and it seems they didn't offer it separately. Maybe more reason for me to return and get some!

You know what's interesting. They give away fortune cookies. I always had the notion that these were given away from Chinese Restaurants. Well here I was getting them from an all day breakfast place.
I get to have 3 different lucky messages in my fortune cookies. That's how lucky I am.
Service is top notch. Although it may be a bit slow once they get overwhelmed with a lot of patrons. Budget is 300-500Php. Just right.

Munchtown and ZAP: The Perfect Movie Treat in Greenhills

Isn't it nice to have a quick resto that serves great and awesome for our movie treats?

When watching a movie, its really important to have the best food available to munch on. Of course! Sometimes popcorn and hotdogs aren't just enough!!!

But first, you got to go to an AWESOME Movie House something that uses the most advance technology.. like let's say Dolby Atmos in Greenhills.

Wouldn't you know, there's a booth there to allows you to register to ZAP. Its free and it gives you cash back on movies and restos and a lot more. (10% on the movie!! SULIT!!)
Just register and input your cellphone number and that is all you need. And yes.. this isn't paid advertisement.. I just saw it fit to spread the word because it is so damn useful and its for free!!! Not just for movies but even other establishments around the metro!!!
After getting tickets to a bloody awoo awooo movie! (300 without King Leonidas)
My family and I chilled and stay at a straight forward snack restaurant in disguise. MUNCHTOWN!

With the same guys behind Green Pastures (click, click ), you know that this place would carry a punch!
Not really a seat down affair, you order and pay at the counter and they make the food fresh! and then the serve it up! (and yes they deliver in the cinema!)

Since we had ample time to wait for our movie, we had our food there.
We got 2 kinds of fries. FRESH!!!! (they have a lot to choose from and i mean a lotttttt!!!)
Poutine!!!!!! Cheese and gravy! Something one would really love!!!!
Truffled variant!!!
Rather than getting a burger, we had sliders!!!
Made with angus, the burgers are deadly and filling. Something worth getting from their menu..
PICKLE!!!!!!!! and CHEEEEESSSSEEE!!!
Also get a pizza...
Prosciutto and arugula... Not really the best one but for the price range its in the league...

They also serve some Arizona Iced Teas and a lot more. For the pricing and the quality of the food, I would definitely go back here even if I wasn't watching a movie!....
LOVE IT!

Quick Bite: Hunger Strikes in Lido Chinese Eatery

Hungry and tired... back from a looong looong journey down south over the weekend.. I looked for a quick place to eat. somewhere not that pricey but not fastfood..

Hungry! Hunger! A feeling one must never feel.... After a long weekend down south.. (more of that in my latter posts...) I was extremely weak. I didn't have the strength I had a couple of days back... with the traffic and the long drive.. DAMN! SUPER!
Thankfully I got near my place still alive and took a quick food detour because I know I didn't have anything to eat at home.

The place was super full! I was greeted by their staff and pointed me to the back. Good thing there was parking space there and underneath the building.
I chose to eat alfresco since there was a breeze and the place was packing.

Started with their hot calamsi drink. It is something that soothes the throat! Not too sweat...
Helped my sorethroat .. would go back just to get this!!!
Yup.. I did it again...  I actually over ordered because I would be having them for breakfast!!!

Starting with their Chami Special, Chami is a pancit or noodle variant usually being based from Lucena, in Quezon Province.
It actually reminds me of the yakisoba in Tokyo Tokyo but it was more juicy and had more stuff in it.

Since I love shrimps, I got their Camaron Rebosado
Medium sized prawns; fried with home made batter served with sweat and sour sauce.

Since I was actually eating, I needed some rice. The  Lido Se-Po Rice is the rice meal that gives a lot of varieties since it lets you try the different varieties of meat they serve.
YES there is EGG!!! Plus kawali, chorizo and their asado!
Since I was looking for more ways to clog my artery (LOL!), I also got an order of fried wanton
crunchy and certainly a good snack.
The staff was really accommodating and had everything panned out. They were able to answer my different questions. The food was all right and for the price and quality and taste (It came fast, hot and fresh.), I could always have this as a place for a quick snack . The fact that its 2-3 minutes away from my place and that they deliver, means a lot since right now since, my mom aka the cook, is out of town for a vacation along with my bro.... waaaaaa!!!! Iniwan kami ni dad... pambihira!!

Budget around 300 Php per person.

Summer Treats at McDonald's

$

OMG! Ang init!!!!
You know its summer when you know the fan ain't cutting it. You sweat like a pig and it ain't stopping. Thankfully, McDonald's is just a stone throw away where ever you are in Manila and they offer some simple alternatives to cool off.

Having access to aircon 24/7 can be a norm for the rich kids and the well off families out there this summer. But for the simple person with a limited budget, being able to savor rich, decadent and cold dessert is already a treat in itself that  makes the heat go away.
Good thing McDonald came up with new affordable and innovative desserts.
The newest flavor of McFlurry would be the Sans Rival.
Every bite reminds you of that dessert you used to steal every time there is a party. It is so addicting that even Jill of The Food Scout can't stop herself from finishing the entire cup.

In addition to this new McFlurry, they added 2 different variations for the McFloat. Personally, I don't like mixing ice cream with coke but just this once, I made an exception.

On the left is the Tiramisu Coke McFloat. Every sip gives off a hint of coffee. This would be enjoyed by those caffeine addicts! On the right would be the Black Forest Coke McFloat. It is cherry flavored mixed with chocolate. Honestly, I don't eat black forest cake so I am not into its flavor.
I don't know if I am weird but I looooove fries on ice cream. I love dipping it. and slurping the ice cold cream along with the salty flavor of the fries. I guess I am happy like that. The next time you do get a cup of ice cream why not try it? Just my 2 cents on how to properly eat McDonald's Fries. LOL
and you know what happens to me when I get my fries and ice cream...
Fear the beard but love the fries!!!
I smile so hard that I can't control it. LOL!

The Black Pig: One Pig to Rule Them All!

"Once you go black... you never go back..."
and with that... I think I can say that one of my best meals in the Alabang Area would be in The Black Pig.
One faithful, sleep-deprived, tiresome Saturday, I went down south for a staycation. Of course, if one wants to enjoy, the tummy must be filled up first. I drove for an hour just to get here and I was floored! It was all worth it.
After getting seated, we were served complimentary bread basket.
Olive oil, gazpacho and other bread variants.
Delicious and made in house according to one of the staff.. Too bad they don't sell it.
Would have bought some.

Another interesting freebie is the beet root gazpacho with cream cheese and beet root chips.
Kill me now... When I tasted this I was in heaven. Cool and refreshing.
Chips were an excellent game changer.
Someone got a pot of tea... while I chose to try something else.
Holgate beer taps

I went for a Black Pig Bear Flight.
Four different flavors. Start from the mild all the way to the hard. Personally, I was happy with the mildest one. My companion loved everything. Even if the taste was a bit bitter and heavy for me. Honestly I am not sure with the arrangement but go for it as you get to try a lot of variants.

The Cheese Selection had 4 types of exquisite cheese... DUH!!!

in addition to these starters we also had the Charcuterie Board.
This is a great start to an impressive meal. I love how these go well with everything so far. Don't ask but yes I ate most of it...
and this is how!!!!
I mix all of it into ONE BIG BITE!!!

To start our mains, I got a Black-Ink Risotto.
The risotto was masterfully made. The capers were appropriately placed and wasn't overwhelming.
I loved it!
I also got a Poached Egg & Mushroom Puree
Interesting use of a poached egg. The mushroom puree complimented the egg very well.
My companion got the Mahi-Mahi Fillet.
Shitake Mushrooms and teriyaki sauce. Perfectly cooked and sweet to taste.

On the way out. Always look for this girl for she has THE JAR!!!
She serves home made marshmallows with a different flavor twist.
It looks normal right? but that day it tasted something different. I couldn't remember the name but I could definitely remember the taste! LOL ...

The service was excellent. Price was appropriate for the experience. Although, budget around 800-1000 Php per hungry kid. Also, I love how the basement parking is still free of charge!!! LOL! Excellent!
I think I saw my self portrait on the floor.

Todd English Food Hall: 1st Foreign Celebrity Chef Restaurant in Manila!

Food hall could be best describe with three words: "sharing dinning experience". With numerous stations, this particular restaurant is able to serve different flavors for everyone in the family. From salad and appetizers to pasta and pizza to Japanese rolls, to fresh dishes to mains to snacks to desserts and a lot more. Best part? Everything is freshly made to order.

Pizza station, where they make those delicious flat breads...
Just on its 1st week of operation, My friend and I was able to try the 1st foreign celebrity chef restaurant that opened in the Philippines. Todd English, known for his restaurant Olives and tv show Food Trip with Todd English, made waves with the Filipino Foodie community with his choice of opening his first Food Hall outside of the USA.

I really wanted to order a loooooot when I saw the menu!!! But, I was only able to get a few dishes since if I order a bit more, I would have stares glaring all over me. Worst, my friend would have gave me the evil eye and left me right there and then!LOL. Initially, I was disappointed to learn that some of my orders were not available. Giving them the benefit of the doubt since its only been a few days of operations, I shrugged it off.  I asked for their drink list and dessert menu but it seems it was still being developed. No Hot Teas nor cocktails available as only colas and juices were offered to us by our server. Argh!

First up at bat, is their Crab Fried Rice (299Php).
The flavor was intense and the smell gave off that fresh crab essence and not in that synthetic way. Was really really good. Unfortunately, this came way ahead of the pack even before the salad nor the pizza. We had to wait for a while since our mains didn't arrive yet. I was able to talk to one of the managers that checked up on us. It was really good to see that they asked for our opinions and genuinely valued it. He apologized and informed us that since they have different stations that cooks our meals, their timing, in terms of serving the courses in a proper order, was a little off but they are working on it.

For something healthy, we got their Greek Salad (260Php).
Crispy romaine lettuce, red onion, olives, cucumber, feta cheese, oregano vinaigrette, greek yogurt, served with feta cheese philo triangles. The veggies were crunchy and fresh. The dressing was light. It was only a little too salty as the feta cheese's flavor was intense and generously served. Maybe they could have mini triangles instead of one big one so that we could share it properly.

"Never trust a round Pizza" - Todd
One must not go to Food Hall without ordering a flat bread. We got Fig & Prosciutto (530Php).
Fig Jam, Gorgonzola, Rose Mary, Prosciutto, Scallions. Generous with the ingredients, this baby doesn't disappoint. Loving every bite as the crust was well made and the flavor was sweet from the fig and salty from the prosciutto. Damn!
T.E. Two Way Duck (650Php), on the other hand, was a little disappointing.
Homemade duck leg confit, sous vide duck breast, sweet potato puree, pickled red cabbage, duck dmi & french beans. The duck leg has crunchy skin and soft meat. It was what saved this dish. My companion and I actually fought over it. Good thing, we were able to compromise or else it would have been world war 3. Painfully, the breast par was undercooked. Really hard and chewy. Didn't touch it after the first bite.

Next up was the Roasted Pumpkin Tortelli (220Php). After trying to order the veal agnolotti and even some oysters (which weren't available), I got this baby. I had to follow up on this dish as they forgot about it. Initially, our server told us that we didn't order it. Upon asking her to check, she apologized and followed up on it. The wait was worth it.
Alongside with flat bread and the dessert, this got to be the best dish I had during our lunch. The roasted pumpkin filling was damn good. It was creamy and tasty. I could slurp it all up! I didn't care that it looked like a mess. One bite and I loved it!!!
Since I have been a good boy for the past week, I also got a dessert. They only had two on the menu. The first choice was S'mores which they only started serving a day before. So, I chose the other instead.
The OMG!!! (420Php)!
This chocolate cake is heavenly. Pure orgasmic. It melted in my mouth. My taste buds were loving it!!!
After shot. Just to prove my point! LOL! Even after eating it, it still looks like a work of art.

This restaurant is a welcome sight to the Manila food scene. It definitely up the stakes in terms of delivering fresh and affordable food. Although a few kinks here and there, I think its forgivable for the first few weeks of operations. Can't wait to go back with a few more friends to enjoy more dishes but I think I'll lean more towards the pasta and dessert rather than the mains and maybe after a few weeks... Budget around 400-600Php/person. Pretty affordable for the quality and flavor!

Staycation Files: Bellevue Hotel Manila in Alabang

On a Sunny Saturday afternoon, a friend and I went on over down south for a little staycation.

Nestled on the right side of the Alabang-Zapote Road coming from the Skyway, the Bellevue is strategically located near the different office buildings that houses I.T.s and BPOs. It is on the opposite side of town from Acacia Hotel (click) and Atc and Black Pig (click
Coming from another event, we were able to get to Alabang around a few minutes past 12 and had our lunch at Black Pig (click). After enjoying ourselves, we went on over to Bellevue Manila at around 2pm.
Parked the car in their underground parking and led ourselves to their front desk found in their tower wing...

We didn't wait long as we got ourselves checked in within 3 minutes.

The hotel is divided into two wings. The main hotel, which is older and the tower wing, which I loved more. The main lobby is found in their tower wing but the parking elevator brings you up to their main. So don't get lost on me! LOL!
I liked how their lobby is bright and huge and that there are a lot of couches and chairs for the people waiting around. We were then given our key card for the room, wifi password, car pass, complimentary drink tickets for the pool bar or the Vue bar and even a small letter detailing the perks that goes with our room.
You see, on a whim, I booked a Signature Deluxe Room (8540Php Nett) for an overnight staycation. I liked all the perks that goes with it. From the wifi, that could be accessed almost everywhere in the hotel, to the Signature Club, that we abused, and the Breakfast and a lot more. (More on these on later posts).
If I had booked it 2 weeks in advance, I could have had a pretty penny for the discount. LOL! But I wanted to chill and procrastinate and was hoping for another Tagaytay escape but unfortunately Tagaytay was full that weekend so hello Alabang!

After checking in and signing the papers, we were advised that the room was prepared. Usually their check in time was at 3:00pm, but we got in settled a few minutes past 2.
Chill.... was the word that could best describe the stay.
Be careful with the bench in front of the bed. It gave my friend and I scars on our legs as it always gets us. Tip: move it to the side as there is space near the wall to avoid getting hit.
The bed was really comfortable and huge. You could fit 3 of me or 5 medium sized person on it. LOL

I liked how they have everything you could need right at your reach.
Thankfully, the TV is a flat screen that is wall mounted. Wohooooo!!!!! Walking dead mode on!!
Of course, I did a few more digging around the room.
The cabinet could store a lot. I liked how they got all the amenities that you could need. From slippers to bath robes to flashlights and yes even an iron board.

The mini bar was stocked with all the munching that you would need but I guess if you have access to the Signature Club Room, you wouldn't care about the drinks and snacks in the room.
Of course, I am a little queezy when it comes to hotel bathrooms so I was happy when I saw ours.
There was a clean bathtub...
Complete toiletries with Acca Kappa for shampoo, conditioner, gel, lotion and soap.
A floating throne with a bidet!!! Yahoooooo!!!!
and I love the shower area too!!!! There is a rain shower head which shoots water in different directions!!! Pressure was awesome even if we were in the 20th floor!!!
Since it was a lovely day, we went around and explored the hotel.
Yes that's a view...
We went on over to their pool area. They actually have a pool on the 3rd floor for both tower wing and main wing. Unfortunately, the one on the main wing is closed because there was a building being constructed across it so we just chilled in the tower wing pool.
It wasn't heated and it was a bit cold as there was a breeze coming from all over the place. So no swimming, just chilling.
They have a lovely koi pool too just beside the pool area.
It was also soooo tempting to swim at night but it was too cold!!!
There is a shallow pool area on the other end.
For those that wants to have a quick trim or what not, they have a salon on the 3rd floor of the main hotel area.
Plus they have a gym area that has a retro feel. Also in the main wing.
After walking around the hotel, my friend was a little under the weather and wanted to get some medications. One thing that I love about the hotels here in Alabang would be that they have complimentary shuttle service around the Alabang Area. Bellevue offers it free of charge to their guests from 6am all the way till 11pm. Yes, they drop you off and pick you up after. They have it every 30 minutes. Thankfully, we had the shuttle all to ourselves that we had it wait for us instead when we went to the drug store to buy some medication.

When we got back to our room. We found some night time treats...
(sorry I ate all of them... bwhahahaha!!!)
Why I ate all of them? Because she had room service!!! I liked how its available 24/7. Since she was under the weather she only got soup and rice.
Wasn't able to taste it but from what I saw she finished it.
and yes, when she called, they got it in 5 minutes unlike some other hotels that force you leave it outside the door because you need to go somewhere or have something else to do. Now that's service.

Woke up really early the next day to have breakfast and got an extended stay since they allowed us to have a late checkout at 2pm (yeah just inquire with them and ask and its for free....)

I enjoyed the stay as it was really chill. For the price and the location, it was all right. Wouldn't mind going back maybe in a few months or so but for sure it wouldn't be just an overnight stay. Service was awesome.

Bellevue Manila Hotel: Things to Do and Enjoy

$

"What to do? What to do?"... This would definitely be the simplest question one would ask during a staycation.

A few weekends ago, my friend and I went on over down south to experience a little breather. We stayed on over at Bellevue Hotel in Alabang (click) .

To answer the question on "What to do?"... I listed down the stuff that one could do while staying at The Bellevue. With the exception of swimming and relaxing and the other stuff I took note of in my previous post, I wrote down a few things we were able to do. Think of it as a cheat sheet. Make good use of it!!

1) Abuse the Signature Club's Perks
Located on the 21st floor of the tower wing, the Bellevue Signature Club doesn't disappoint. In case you are staying in a normal room, you could actually inquire and pay an additional amount to let you enjoy the club perks. Believe me, sulit! (If I am not mistaken, if at a tower room, add 1000Php but if at the main hotel add 1500Php.. best to check with them to be sure...)
It has a loooot of comfortable couches and high def television mounted all over the place. Chill! You get to have access to their all day soda, coffee, tea service. They also have some snacks to accompany you in case you get the munchies.
Some pica-pica, they also have some cookies and what not.
If you are up for peace and quiet, you could also order from any of their in house restaurant and have it serve right there and then.
Mixing business and leisure? Make sure to use their conference room. Its free to use everyday for an hour.
and for those who would need some computer loving, you can also use their computers for an hour. They got a printer and copier machine just in case. (but they got great wifi coverage and speed)
Come 6pm, head on over because they serve some drinks and snacks (aka pwede ng pang dinner!).
They have a small bar where you could get a few drinks and cocktails. TIP: Get "jiggy with it" on their cocktail hour as its on the house! Which brings me to number 2.
2) Go to the Club Room come 6pm!
For this cocktail hour, they got a lot to offer. Believe me when I say, I was impressed.

Wowed because the cost to quality ratio was definitely making me happy!!!
For "snacks", this is already good for dinner! As what my friend said "I need some rice!"
Yeah.. snacks...cheese...salad..fruits.. bread..pastries...
 Some potato croquettes
Beef something.. definitely tender, juicy and yummy!
and yeah they also serve some sweet stuff!

and unlimited drinks. You could ask the guys to make you some cocktails. As long as they have the ingredients, they could definitely make it for you!
Sodas, beer, white and red wine, vodka, johnny walker, bacardi, jim beam... and a lot more!
and of course my personal favorite.. some ginger ale.
(they replenish the stocks instantaneously!!! so get get get!)
Needless to say, this wasn't my plate because mine was pretty much messed up.
(sobrang pinuno ang plate LOL!)
tea, mimosa, wine, ginger ale, mango juice, and some dessert.

and of course, as I said you could pick your own poison.
3) You could have your breakfast in peace in the Club Room.
Albeit the selection here aren't that a lot compared to Cafe D' Asie, the privacy and the personalized service is definitely a plus!
Salad, yoghurt, muesli, mixed fruits, cereals, juices.
Yeah, they get some bacon for you!
and some baked salmon puff. You could also ask them to make you some pancakes, waffles, french toasts and egg.
4) Make use of the private gym!
Hairy legsss ewwww~!
Compared to their other gym, this has a more bright and modern feel. Kinda reminds me of my trip to Thailand (click).
 Weights galore.
Yeah, I bike like that! ... Don't forget to bring your own earphones so you could watch cable tv while doing your stuff. Forgot them, no problem, use the wall mounted tv to watch your favorite show.
and yes, they have a private steam room just for you.
"Shhhhhhh" Because I like it hot.
5) Get a well deserve massage!

The Bellevue recently opened a spa on their 3rd floor tower wing. It opens around 1pm and last call is around 10pm.

The rates are actually affordable. You could choose to have the massage in your room or do it in their private rooms.
You can get a facial too!
They have private rooms and couple rooms which are first come first serve at no additional cost.

and yes they have an indoor heated jacuzzi!!!!! so believe me when I say.. YAHOOOOOO!!!!
They also have a sauna if you want to use it.

Service was awesome. The rates are quite competitive. Although not yet at par with other hotel spas, this could be a competitor in a few months time and with a little more training.
Needless to say, I was pretty much impressed with the stuff I was able to do in Bellevue. My friend and I were able to relax. She got a well deserve massage and I was able to eat and drink to my heart's tummy's content.

Definitely worth coming back to and would be lovely. If only there was an upcoming long weekend so I could stay longer than an overnight. Bang for buck! Definitely a great hotel experience down south.

 P.S.
Wasn't able to stay and try out the Vue Bar,
but I heard its a nice place to chill for an after dinner session, as
they have live performers on stage.

Vikings @ Sm Megamall: Raising the Buffet Bar

$

Food oh glorious food where have you been all my life...  wait.. don't answer that. This is just me day dreaming about that faithful Wednesday where my tummy was happy and my body could no longer move. Damn food coma.

Lunch time, I found myself swarmed by all the food a person could possibly eat in a life time. Well maybe for a couple of months. Okay I'm lying.... I will admit it, I can finish all of em in a week or two day or two. LOL!
Ham Right! Start everything with these!
Recently, Viking's opened up their newest luxury buffet restaurant in SM Megamall's Megafashion Hall. This latest addition to their food empire has become more of an upgrade to the way Viking's serve their faithful followers. I believe they listened to the suggestions of their customers and did what anyone would do to stay in the game. Aim High and Raise the Bar!

Their newest branch has a capacity of 500 pax and has cordoned off areas for private functions. Unlike their Sm Marikina Branch (click), this buffet area has basically spread out the arrangement in a way that they properly serve dishes and keep everyone happy! And yes they maximized the area too. I love the whole chic feel to the restaurant interior. The layout is basically a " ]=[ ". Think of it as the way the dishes were presented and served.
Breads galore!
Enough with all the senseless words.. lets just make the pictures do all the talking.

An assorment of cheese!
Their area for salad and appetizers could already well be a small buffet for other restaurants.
You get to create your own salad. Yup they have pre-made ones too.

 For those who like pica-pica...

 and now they have tapas?!!!

Now, if you are like me, you are definitely a Japanese food lover.. Right? Right! Say yes!!!!! Because, you won't be disappointed with what they offer.
They got a number of rolls, sashimis and temakis.
and they have all the tempuras you could ever want!
Yeah.. they got some tonkatsu too and other deep fried tempuras.
When you see fresh fish and you can't smell a thing, you know you are getting the good stuff.
One thing I like about Vikings is that you could ask them to cook fresh meat for you!
They have this whole ice table for you to pick your poison. From Salmon to marinated Beef.
and yes they got some oysters too!
Cheesy goodness!!!
I love it how, they just keep on refilling and refilling the dishes.
TIP: If you see something you like and its already gone, you could ask the server to get some and bring it to your table.. so remember: take note of your table number!

Speaking of table numbers, you would also need them if you would like to:
Make your own mongolian bbq!
and get some shabu shabu too!

Now for the kiddos and kids at heart (and tummy = that's me!!!) , they got the make your own pasta and pizza station! That's Amore!!
You could ask the chef to make you a pizza or pasta and you get to pick the ingredients!
In case you are like me and is soooo lazy, they also got made ones for you to get!!!
Soooo fluffy, I could die!
Of course, you can't go to a buffet without getting from their big guns.
and that my friend, is their Carving Station.
WANT SOME PIG?
It just gets better and bigger every time. To think this is just their weekday lunch buffet! Damn!
Or something with feathers?
Yeah, I know.. I am more of a lamb and beef eater myself.
Beef Brisket and lamb
What would meat be without their sauces?
These are their companions for life.
\Yes, they also have a Chinese area, where they have dimsums, and other hot dishes for you to partake.

Now, one can't live on meat alone... Definitely you would need to drink. When I went on over to get a drink, I saw this.
Double vision.. waaaaaaaaaaa
Yes boys and girls, I got WOOOOZY!!!!!
The selections for the drinks was just wowed me!!! SERIOUSLY! I didn't remember their other branches having this many!!!
Okay, it actually looked like this.
You get to pick from different juices or ask them for a shake or some sodas or some coffee or some tea or some draft beer or some milo slushy.... Yes a slushy...
ANG DAMIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!

Moving on, they also have an impressive line up for dessert. The sheer number of choices just overwhelms me!
 These plus cakes!
and yeah... lets make a crepe!
Of course the mandatory chocolate fountain.. and some ice cream and yogurt on the side is always there!
and for those health buffs.. this is for you!
Fresh fruits.
Now, I must show you my plates. It is just mandatory. LOL! So that my mom could be proud you can see how tame I went. LOL!
(syempre nahiya ako sa mga kasama ko... baka isipin nilang ... dot dot dot ako.. LOL!)
I must say, the salmon was fresh. =)
The lamb was a bit dry. I would suggest they do what other Viking's Branches do. Cook it mid way and have the final touches done once the patron ask for it with his preference. The beef brisket on the other hand was soft and perfectly cooked in my opinion.
For appetizers (yeah... this is my 3rd dish and its the appetizer), I liked the bellini and its toppings of "caviar", capers, egg whites and chopped onions. I always get this every time I eat in Vikings.
For dessert, I went traditional with cakes and puffs. The mango sago is just love.

And you know what? Ending the meal with coffee is just EPIC!
I was really happy to see that they now have a machine that could give give you more choices for your coffee.
I am so sorry epic fail in making coffee art. LOL!

The service was just phenomenal. The staff were always engaging and courteous. They would always give a smile and greet and even ask you what's your preference for certain dishes and they'll try to make it happen. And they give you their suggestions on which dishes to get! I love how pleasant they are with the diners.

Ever since the 1st branch of Vikings opened its door along the bay area of Sm Mall of Asia, My family and I had been fans of this luxury buffet restaurant. The quantity and the quality of its offering could dwarf some of the buffet  other restaurants and hotels would offer and yes the price tag also doesn't hurt.
Heck Vikings is one hella of a competitive player. I am thankful that they are able to maintain and give it their all to become better with making tummies happy and people sleepy.LOL!

I am grateful for Sir Richie's (Pickiest Eater ) invite and also for Raquel of Vikings for having us.

On a personal note, I am so happy to share a meal with fellow bloggers. LOL! It has been awhile since I saw them at work.

From Rina (Rina's Rainbow) to Abet (The Food Alphabet) to Richard and his wife (Tales From The Tummy) to Eugene (Hefty Foodie) and Grace of (A View From The Leftie).

and yes I can't say it enough but BABY RAIN IS SOOOOO CUTE! and kulit!

Outbreak Missions: Stronghold in Intramuros

Walled City. Imagine when Spaniards ruled over us and there were armed struggle all over the place.
This, my friend, is the newest setting of the latest episode of
Outbreak Missions: Operation Stronghold.

The atmosphere was intense and definitely dark.. Really Dark! The place was lit up by klieg lights and burn barrels.
A LOOOOOTTTTTT of runners.. trying to survive.
The zombie run that diversified into a choose your own adventure. No longer the pure race that it was once known for. Now it let's you decide and lets you walk it out. You read that right... Walk.
Good for us non-runners normal people. LOL
Don't be deceived by the map; we went all over the place! From Outbreak's Facebook Page
Leading up to the event, I wasn't really going to register for it as I had a most BFing worthy experience in the previous Outbreak Missions: The Narrows (click). But, I will be the first to admit that I enjoyed their EK run and also their BGC 2nd edition (Click). Not minding the bad experience, I nodded and got pushed into going back because of the invitations I got from friends and the chance to see Intramuros at night. Nothing to lose, everything to gain.

I got to give it to them, this got to be their most successful event yet and I truly enjoyed it.
From Outbreak's Facebook Page
With a lot of major sponsors, double or almost triple the number they got from the previous Outbreaks, the missions definitely manned up and easily filled up the slots for the run and even prompting them to open some more just like what they used to do a year or so ago..

Being able to hype it up via social media also helped. Classic examples would be their posters that had a lot of quirky idea in them and would basically summarize everything you would need to know. Like this one.
I see Marshalls!!From Outbreak's Facebook Page
As the event day night arrived, I saw myself prepping up just like what anyone would do and that is .....
taking a selfie with my game face on! LOL!
LOL@ Pagbigyan na!
Signing up for the event would be the start to get that adrenaline feel but getting the life belts would be another adventure.

Yup you guessed right. The lines were epic. Long and I mean LONG! It snaked all the way behind the sponsor booths. Just goes to show that a lot really wanted to try out this missions.

Before getting in, I was able to interrogate politely interview old and new friends and was quite amused to learn that for most of them, it is their first time. Outbreak Virgins if you will. Take for example, Gran, an old friend from way way back when I was an administrator of Pinoytambaygroup. He was going with a bunch of dedicated runners from Pinoy Fitness, who were also media partners of the event. This isn't his first rodeo as he is a seasoned runner but truth be told it was his first Outbreak Missions. He mentioned that he was pretty much excited about the event and of course game face on. LOL! Nice seeing you pal.
With an Outbreak Virgin Roch... photo courtesy of Rochkirstin.com's Facebook
Another one would be Roch of The Dice In The Board, while waiting in line, I had a small chat with her. I learned that it was her first time and she was quite excited about it as well. She, along with a few others, were blogger participants that were invited by the organizers. I hope she came out alive. I was actually scared for her because of her uhm.. petite frame.

So why where we lined up infront of mogu-mogu? It was because they were giving away an extra life (which turned out to be a t-shirt ~ YAHOO!)
Thank you so much!!! Mogu-Mogu! Your tshirt rocks.. now if only it would fit. waaaaa!
Along with mogu-mogu, there were a lot, and I mean, a lot of booths to make the participants busy happy while waiting for the gun start. Sponsors crowded the entrance and the sides to make everyone glad they arrived early. Some were giving free drinks while others had photo booths set up. I got to take home a bunch of magazines, energy drinks, free coffee, fan, and even some feminine wash .
(woops don't tell my mom).

In true Outbreak Fashion, wave 1 started a bit late. I guess it was them checking, double checking, triple checking everything and making sure the course was prepared to the fullest. For safety and what not reasons, since we were running in the famed centuries old walled city of Manila after all.
When wave 2 was called, my buddy and I went on in with nothing but a creep feeling. It was pretty much dark. The old cave like structures were really cold and has that musty feel! It was freaking me out!

The run proper started with Dr. Vera Adarna and Guerrero asking everyone to find the estranged
Dr. Alfonso Adarna.
Dr. Adarna went on over the the walled city because there lies a small pox vaccine strain that could be the cure. Unfortunately, he was captured by the Brotherhood, who controls Intramuros. and it is up to the survivors to get him back and get out with the cure.
 Outbreak's trailer
We were asked to form a group of 10-15 just so to let us have a better chance of staying alive.
And here lies the point of no return.
Zombies were scattered all over the place. Right from the get go. For the first 200 meters, it was just all running and screaming. It was pure horror!
When you see them on the streets, you automatically run like hell! Photo courtesy of francramon.com's Facebook
You go left or right or straight and back but you can't stop! It is the only way to go when you see them waiting and craving for your lives.
Wait.. you're not my grandma!!! Photo courtesy of francramon.com's Facebook
After a few scares, we were walking on the walls of Intramuros and was able to meet up and encounter some Non-player characters (NPC) for the Brotherhood.
They asked us for a life just so as everyone would be given safe passage with the brotherhood held territory. Then another NPC from The Rebels informed us of another frightening threat. We were supposed to transverse a Brotherhood controlled area where we should avoid the lights.
Creepy! Photo courtesy of francramon.com's Facebook
It was pure fear! Everyone ran like hell and were trying to avoid the lights and the horde of zombies. Since the floor was uneven, it was difficult running in the dark getting away from the undead. OMG!
After getting out of that pit hole, leaders of the Brotherhood (which turned out to be girls LOL!), welcomed us and asked everyone to join them.
These girls wants us to join them.. hmmmm Photo courtesy of francramon.com's Facebook
After walking the path on top of the walls, we were greeted by Brotherhood personnel that said an area ahead was engulf with zombies. UV lights were placed and would help us in avoiding them. As such, we should stay on the path of the red light.
Unfortunately, it was only available half way.
OMG! SCARY FUN S**T!!!happened next.
We gotta run away from this girl erm.. zombie. Photo courtesy of francramon.com's Facebook
We all huddled and lured towards the light but suddenly, no more lights!!!!

 WAAAAHHHH! RUN!! RUNN!!!!

It was the only way.... lives were lost!!
After getting out, we were able to finally see the high and intoxicated Dr. Adarna!
He was at the entrance of Fort Santiago.
Zoned out and epicly high from all that partying... wish I could do that this summer!!!
He informed everyone to look for 3 ingredients to get all the way through that stage and control the zombies for the Brotherhood but advised that there is an extra one that would help cure the Outbreak for the Rebels and it was found outside the fort.
After bad mouthing her former wife and the rebels and asking us to stay for drinks, he advised us to get on in the fort and start looking for ingredients (in the form of glow sticks).
I was scarred hell with the movie.. what more in real life! Waaaa! Photo courtesy of francramon.com's Facebook
When  we entered, a lot and I mean a lot of freaking zombies swarmed us to death.
Entrance of Doom!! waaaaaaaa!!!
They were unleashed upon us!!! Waaaa!!!!
Not us please...... Sila muna..HUMAN SHIELD ON!...Photo courtesy of francramon.com's Facebook
Thankfully, we got those glow sticks. Then, we were able to walk towards the end. Here comes the waiting game. We were funneled into a path and had us fall in line and wait for our turn. Daig pa ang pila ng MRT!
But it was worth it.
Once we got in, we were met by another NPC and advised to pick 2 paths.
1 to the left, which was for the brotherhood. They stand for CONTROL of the Zombies to protect their group from outside forces. The easier path.

And another to the right. It was were we could be able to get the 4th ingredient for theCURE but warned us that we would pass by hordes of zombies that were deaf but not blind. We were advised to walk steady. Not slow nor fast as they would eat us alive!

The team chose the harder way. Thankfully, we survived and met up with doctors from the Rebels.
They asked for our ingredients and mixed a concoction
and had 2 zombies tied up to the wall to test the CURE...
Scarrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyy something from a horror flick.
and yes, it did work!! They turned normal!

Wohoooooooo!!!!!!!
and from there, we were back to where we started.
This run was my 4th with OM and I got to say, I was pretty much impressed with their organizational and event planning skill.

The setting proved to be a difficult one but they had it covered and I guess everyone enjoyed!!!
I had fun to say the least and TEAM PORK SISIG was awesome!
 Thank you so much guys!!!!
Thanks for listening and giving advise on what to do and where to go!! Awesome Team Work!
Of course, just so you know, I survived the run with 3 lives from an original 4, but gave my dog tag to another team mate.. just because she didn't have any...I'm sweet like that...
and yeah.. look at all the swag I got...way better than the previous run :D
these plus a bunch of magazines and other stuff...
I personally enjoyed this one better than the last missions but over all, EK was the best for me. Its just something to do with a theme park and zombie clowns in it. For the 1000Php fee, they got the parking covered and a lot of marshals and police were around to properly escort and take care of the well being of the participants. The take home loot bag and shirt was cool too.

On the last Outbreak Run I was BFing about this and that, this time around, I guess they made improvements and things worked out fine. Everything went on to be a little smoother and better. Definitely! Would I go back and run again? We shall see. Fine I will and it depends on my friends too! LOL! Hopefully, they get to have another awesome venue and get to ummph the fear factor!!!!And yes the 1000Php fee was worth every penny.

Also Check out Francramon.com 's experience.
and wait for Roch's experience too!!

The Grillery: Simple and Straight Forward

Remembering my old high school hungout...
When I entered this restobar, it gave me that simple feel reminiscent of when I was back in high school drinking enjoying the company of friends. It was the type of hungout where one gets to relax and chill and simply be lost in his own thoughts.

Simple and Straight Forward. Two things I love when I go out and chill with friends. Such was my impression of Grillery Restaurant & Bar.

When I met the kind people behind this establishment, I knew that I was in the company of friends. As friends, they no doubt would go all out to make your stay with them chill, relaxing and yes it wouldn't hurt for you to enjoy.  LOL!

They make you taste all their food. Just as when you thought you wouldn't be full they pull out the big guns and feed you like crazy.
The Chicken ala Kiev (250Php) is their crown jewel. This simple looking piece of chicken has a little secret.
You cut it in the middle and something oozes out.
What is it you ask? Its their special butter herb mix. The inside weren't dry and let me tell you about the crust. It has the thinnest yet crunchy texture one could eat. Kim, the person behind the invite, "politely" asked me to hand over the crust. He was definitely into it and I hopelessly gave it up. LOL!

Raphael along with Chef Edmond, brother tandem behind this restobar, was pretty much proud with their food's quality and taste. And totally assured me that if it doesn't melt, you could return it and they would gladly make another one for you.

For fish lovers and haters, Balinese Fish (200Php) is something that both can compromise into ordering.
The fillets were soft and silky smooth. Cooked to absorb the secret sauce made to whet your appetite.

Next up is their version of  Liempo (190/285Php).
Kind of different as you could see its huge cuts. It was their way of saying, no more rivalry for that small piece. They made sure it was big for everyone. You would be happy to know that the meat wasn't dry and was tender and soft. The taste was totally spot on. The veggies on the side complimented it well.. now where's the booze!>!>?
Not only is this a  place that would serve all the beer you would want to go with your pica pica. They also have wine for you to cleanse your palate. Honestly, I am not that knowledgeable when it comes to wines but they got some bottles that would allow you to taste reds that are worth your while. Not only are these affordable, they are not your usual standards that could be bought from any super market.

In case, you are in for a sweet ending, your new friends know how to reinvent an old school classic.
The Toron de Halo Halo (165Php) is their fried twist to this classic dessert! It isn't that sweet but hits that goal for you to end the meal properly.
I am a nata addict.. and I am proud of it.
and yes, I love the nata... please do get this and have it as something just for yourself. Do not share this!

If you are up in the Greenhills area late at night and was wondering where it would be nice to chill and have a beer or two, I would suggest you head on over to The Grillery as they know how to treat you more than a customer but also as a friend. They not only serve booze but good food as well. They are open till late at night. During weekends, they have performers that would let you have piece of way back when and enjoy your new found friends.

Caviar Restaurant Champagne Bar: A Start of Something Great Down South.

Glasses, silver cutlery, and white napkins. Everything a guy would not want when eating dinner. It seems lika a nightmare. For us, hands are the way to go but, just this once, I let Caviar Restaurant Champagne Bar change me.

Started operations just last September, Caviar Restaurant Champagne Bar has become a gem down south. It has been the talk of foodies and socialites and those wanting an intimate place to relax and enjoy good food.

Upon entering, you would notice that they have a chic and sexy interior. Reminds me of Mad Men.
Yup, that's a fire place...
They have a bar and den area for those going for a drink or two.
The wine cellar divides this and the dinning area.
Too muchhhhhhh bottles!!!!! With Michy of I am Dekaphobic
So extensive, they made a wall out of all the empty bottles.
Finished bottles on the wall.
With choices that goes all the way to 1,600,000.00 Pesos.
To something more affordable delightful, like this Dom Perignon (Collector's Edition) that has a label which lights up.

Of course, the dinning area is the place to be. Here you could enjoy the wonderful creations of Chef Frank Van Der Walle and his brother Bastiaan Van Der Walle, the sommelier/general manager, could help you decide and guide you to the world of Caviar's wine, scotch, whiskey, and other alcoholic drinks you would ever want.
When dinning, you have the option to seat at the tables or go for the intimate booths.
PLEASE...Go for the booths.. nothing spells out private than the 4 available booths.
But if you have a bigger party in towed, get their VIP room (25,000Php consumable) which has a private entrance and a private garden.

And if you are up for it, they also got an al-fresco area for all star gazing and lovey dovey needs.
It seems like a venue for someone to propose. When I asked, someone already did but they had it in the VIP Room.
Of course, I went for the booth because it was soooo damn comfortable.
A meal starts of with some unlimited must stop self from getting full quickly complimentary bread and dips.
Smoked olives, butter, oil and balsamic vinegar.
While deciding on what to eat, Archie would come up and make some recommendations and walk you through the menu...
Look for Archie, he knows how to take care of you..and he makes your experience wonderful.
You could try out their freshly delivered and alive lobsters. They were flown in from Canada just last Saturday.
Or have a nice cut of rib eye
Being clueless on what to eat, I got a glass of Pagos Del Moncayo, Syrah/Granacha 2012 from Spain (320/420Php)
Great wine to go with my planned meal.
Since we were already at the place, I ordered the Herring Eggs (Php 1,620).
Mind you, these aren't caviar. They are eggs of the Herring Fish. I can't possibly afford those yet..
(duh... when will I get to taste those expensive caviar? One day I will!)
Not too salty but great on the bellinis.
and it came with horse radish, red onions and some white eggs.

I love how the flavor and eggs played in my mouth.
We were served complimentary champagne with grapefruit to accompany the eggs. Great Pairing!!
Amuse-bouche of fried wanton wrapper with avocado based filling.
For salad, we had the Oeuf's Fume (450/510Php).

Smoked Egg Hen with Asparagus and Hollandaise Sauce. I loved how the eggs were cooked. They had this amazing smokey flavor and were runny. The sun-dried tomatoes went well with the arugula. I actually thought that the white rectangular fries were well fries. Rather they were "white" asparagus. Believe me when I say, I enjoyed eating the veggies! That coming from a meat lover is something.

For soup, the Bisque de Homard was served (440Php).
Poached Lobster Meat and Truffle Oil. We had it split and the serving was generous.
I would definitely drive all the way to Alabang just to get a bowl of this soup. The truffle flavor was not overwhelming and it properly melted away with the flavor. Damn this is sooo good!
If only I had more bread, I would have swiped it all. Yum Yum!
Before our mains, a time out was in order.
Intermezzo of Raspberry Peach Rose Sorbet

ASIM! Definitely cleanses the palate.

I was actually going for the lamb but since I just had one recently, I went with their Veal Cheeks (950Php)
Braised Veal Cheeks served with Creamy Polenta and Wild Mushrooms. I didn't know why they gave me a knife but a fork would suffice. Why?
The meat was extremely tender. No need to chew. Slurping it would have been preferred. Properly cooked and flavorful.

Salmon Cuit Lentement (950Php)was her pick.
Slow Smoked Salmon, Lentil Cassoulet and Hollandaise Sauce. The meat was evenly and not overcooked. From the inside out everything was pinkish and the flavor was distributed all through out.

According to Bastiaan, the salmon dish would forever be in their menu. When they tried to remove it, a lot of customers were up in arms. LOL! Why? Well the Salmon they get are imported and somewhat wild. They aren't the usually market available ones that have antibiotics and other drugs infused in them. I guess that made the flavor amazing! #drool
Damn! It was soft and the texture was awesome. My dad would love this as he eats salmon every single day! If only other restaurants could cook it right.

I was even happy to see that Bastiaan Van Der Walle would come on over and check on us multiple times. He would explain about the dishes and would have a small chat with us.
To finish the meal, they gave us a complimentary bottle of Limoncello and some cookies.
When Bastiaan learned I was from the north,  he said, "you know what this is for? you should definitely have a glass first before driving. Its a roadie. One before going on the road." LOL!
The digestive definitely helped in ending the meal. To my surprise, Michy (not an alcoholic drinker), loved it so much. I think I saw her eying some other unopened bottles on the way out. LOL

I am rather pleased with myself. No regrets in trying out this wonderful restaurant. Yes its a bit far from all the ritz and glitz of Makati and BGC but it is what makes it standout. In the south, Caviar Restaurant Champagne Bar has been the go to place for fine dinning and incredible personalized service.
Look for the Harley Davidson motorcycle in front. If it's there, the chef is in!
I tremendously enjoyed all the flavors that played in my mouth. My tongue was really really happy. Unfortunately, my tummy wasn't. It got overstretched. LOL! Service was top notch. Archie really knows how to entertain the guest and I got to say, the owners were pretty much hands on too. Although the prices are a little on the high end for an everyday meal, you wouldn't regret it. (yes they do have lunch sets)

Also, I am not sure if I am allowed to divulge this but they are getting something unique. If I am not mistaken, they would have it in by next month. I wouldn't mind tasting it as there was a controversy about it in Europe a few years back as it was being used as meat for burgers and being marketed as beef. What you guys think? Yay or Nay?
Michy, Bastiaan, me and Archie.

Breakfast at Cafe D' Asie: Photos and Drooling Ensues.

Lazy Sunday Brunches are the best way to enjoy the last day of any the weekend.
During a staycation at Bellevue Hotel Manila a few weekends back, I woke up from a great night's rest and sleep walked. I, unconsciously followed the amazing smell of breakfast.
Instead of having breakfast in the Bellevue Signature Club Lounge, I opted to have it in Cafe D' Asie.

A lot of things to choose from. Their breakfast buffet is something I would love to go back to. I definitely love how they tried to incorporate everything. Although not as extensive and expensive like other hotels found in Makati and Manila, the Cafe D' Asie's breakfast buffet doesn't disappoint.
A few cheese to choose from.
They also got jam and butter and what ever you would need on your bread.
Pica-pica, and yogurts.

Make your own salad.
You could also ask the chef to make your own eggs or omelettes.
They got a few Filipino Specialties..!!!
I love the dangit!
and yes you should get their lovely, crisp and delicious bacon!!!
These are what dreams are made of.
If that is not enough, they got some pork loin!
Soft and Juicy..
They got a few dumplings to choose from too.
They got a lot more appetizers, hot dishes, pasta, noodles, sausages and of course some pancakes and
french toasts.

A post on a buffet is never complete without plate shots. !!!

I tried to stop myself and contain my lust for food so that I could try everything and my mission?
Not over eat.
I love muesli so I got some more.. and the parma ham couldn't hurt too right?
and a growing kid should also have some rice.. and juice.. and coffee and maybe some tea!
and of course, one needs milk... and since milk is boring on its own.. it needs some cereals to lighten it up.
and some fruits to finish the brunch.
Needless to say, mission failed.

Service was pretty much all good. Coffee, tea, juices and milk were available and unlimited. Quality of the food was fine. Great choices considering it came with the package and for the price, it is worth it.

Torch: Where Friends Hungout!

"I need food stat!!!" Hunger has been the downfall of men. In this case, it led me to one of life's simple joys.
Eating out with a close friend.

Past 9pm, K and I have been franticly looking for a place to eat. It was a Sunday and most restaurants close early during this unforgiving hunger day. She was starving and so was I. We went around Quezon City's Teacher's Village twice but didn't seem to find a restaurant perfect for our needs. That drove us to go to Katipunan and scour Blue Ridge until, a light bulb popped up !!

Up Town Center's Torch!
For K, it was her first time trying Torch. Unlike her, I had the pleasure of visiting this same establishment a few months ago. Nothing really changed. It had that same and  welcomey homey feel.
Yes, she loves taking Selfie's
Pretty comfy that she and I were able to play around with ourselves while waiting for our meal.
Of course, she wanted to try something cold to drink. With the summer vibe, nothing beats a cold slushy.

She got a Pandan Slush (75Php)
It may looked like strawberry or cherry or something reddish flavored but it wasn't. It was pure ice mixed with a little red coloring and had a more vanilla taste rather than a pandan. The look definitely deceived us.

Since she wanted some Japanese in her life, we went for an order of Torch's Signature Roll (399.95Php)
Sushi roll filled with with soft-shell crab, ebi tempura, unagi, tamago, and Japanese cucumber, topped with fresh wakame seaweed, kani and ripe mangoes.
This messy baby didn't disappoint. I loved how everything blended in! The rolls were really huge and believe me when I say, I love munching on it!!!
and yes, you gotta eat it like a boss!!! One BIG BITE!!!

Since it was one of those nights were you know a guy and a girl share a table and are extremely hungry, we couldn't stop ourselves but order an Appetizer Sampler (495Php)
Buffalo Asian wings, Chilli Cheese Crispers, Chicken Skin, Truffle Fries.
It was an effing huge order of the different things one would need for pica-pica!
The Truffle Fries were crispy on the outside and definitely tasted like truffle... Grabe! Oily and deadly!

The Buffalo Asian Wings were crunchy and were coated by a sweet flavor. Would have loved it to have a little more heat.
The Chilli Cheese Crispers were huge peppers filled with cheese and more chilli!
The Chicken Skin would make any grown man cry and moan with delight. It was pure heaven!!!!
Crunchy outside but soft and skin filled inside!! DAMN!!! The sweet sauce also helped in making it enjoyable!

You know what happens to 2 friends when they're hungry right? They over order! CRAP!!!
K was looking for pasta, so she also got Bacon and Egg Carbonara (334.95Php)
Damnit!!!!! TAKAW TINGIN I TELL YOU! ... I was really full already when I got to the pasta part of the meal...
But, I saw the BACON
It was crunchy and it was good! The pasta was what you would expect with any cream based meal. Heavy!

I really enjoyed the food but I guess it was the company that made that night special! It was fun going out and catching up with K and planning all the naughty stuff friends would do!

Service was forever present but never too intimidating. Price was all right but maybe a little high when it comes to the pockets of students from nearby colleges. It may not be good for everyday meals because it definitely made our heads spin. Go back? OF COURSE!
