BUENISIMO by CAFE YSABEL in Tomas Morato

Sometimes everything is visually appealing yet one bite in and it falls short. Such was my experience of BUENISIMO. Granted that it may be an off day or I had high expectations still it left me wanting. BUENISIMO which translates to exceedingly good missed on some key flavors I was looking for.
Located in a quiet street near the Tomas Morato Area, BUENISIMO has been a go to place for dates or appointments because of its ambiance. Given that it is from the same people that handles Cafe Ysabel, I know they could do better.
As you enter, you are greeted by the courteous staff and led to your table. Before anything else, this award greets you. Named as Tatler's Best Restaurant for 2016, I was confident that they are part of the top tier of restaurants in the area. Having been able to try out Cafe Ysabel (check out my Cafe Ysabel experience here) made it more so appealing.
Started with some LENGUA with Crispy Garlic. If you are into OX TONGUE, this made full use of it. It was somewhat similar to SALPICAO but the meat was smoother.
Next up was the PASTRAMI Sandwich.
Accompanied by Sauerkraut, I enjoyed the sandwich. The strands of pastrami were somewhat on the neutral flavor but the cheese made up for it. I just didn't like that the bread was toasted to the point that it was hard. If there was one dish that I would order again, this would be it.
No wonder this pizza was called the DOUBLE PEPPERONI.
Loads of PEPPERONI were placed on top of the dough just to make it. If you're into pepperoni pizza, you would enjoy this.
The ANGRY SAUCE came up next. It was somewhat different from what I was expecting. Usually when one says "ANGRY", it would be spicy and hot because of the red chili peppers cooked into the pasta dish. (Un)Fortunately, this had no heat level at all. It could actually pass as a normal red sauce pasta.
The TRUFFLED MAC and CHEESE would have been great. Sadly this version was a bit too much to the point that after one or two bites, you would be forced to stop eating. The cheese flavor would make you "umay" or have that feeling of too much. Unless if you are really after that experience, I wouldn't advice you from getting this.
The SALMON with Passionfruit, Hollandaise and Sous Vide Egg was a sight to see. For me though, it was just an alright dish. The salmon was a little bit overcooked that made it feel a little drier than usual. I was actually looking for the passion fruit flavor alas, I couldn't find it. It might have been only a hint.
When I saw the BACON STEAK, I drooled. It was the perfect looking bacon anyone would love to smother into. One bite in and I stopped. It was just too darn salty. I really wanted to love the dish but I couldn't. The meat in itself was saltier than a dash of salt. I was thinking that maybe it had been over marinated that each strand of it absorbed the salty flavor. Worst, it was partnered with the WILD MUSHROOM RAGOUT. The black gravy like liquid that the 65 Degree egg swam in was also a little salty but I liked it. Actually, this "Gravy" was pretty good. I was willing to eat it solely with a cup of rice because it could stand on its own. Here, we could say that it could be a meal in itself. Sadly, if you add 1+1, it would definitely equate to two. So, it made the dish saltier than it was supposed to be.

When the CRACKLING PORK RIBS came out, I was actually scared because it might taste exactly the same as the bacon. Thankfully, it didn't This had a more neutral flavor. Sort of like LECHON KAWALI on STEROIDS. Accompanied by garlic bits, gravy and raspberry gelatin, it did well.
For dessert, two dishes were served. The CHOCNUT CHEESECAKE and the CREME BRULEE SAMPLER.
The Chocnut Cheesecake was surrounded by strands of sugar that is a signature treat of the Chef when it comes to desserts. This could be seen as garnish with desserts coming from The PERFECT PINT in BGC (check out my experience of PERFECT PINT here) and also in CAFE YSABEL. Once you get over the reddish swirl, the cheesecake is pretty decent. Although, I would have wanted it to have more flavor. Maybe we could have the chocnut more evident. As for the Brulee Sampler, it included the vanilla, dulce de leche and mango. The mango was pretty good as it was mild while the dulce de leche was spot on.
Overall, one could say that you must take into account everything. Ambiance, service and food presentation definitely scored high. Unfortunately, I was expecting a bit more from the food flavors coming from the different dishes.

HOT STAR LARGE FRIED CHICKEN in Spark, Cubao

If there was one store that was definitely worth your money it's HOT-STAR Large Fried Chicken. Hot Star entered the Filipino Food Scene a couple of years back with their very first store somewhere near Macapagal Avenue in Pasay. Now, they have branched out with different branches in the Metro Manila. In other countries, HOT-STAR would usually be a kiosk but for us Filipinos they made it into a full pledge fast food restaurant.
One weekday lunch, I visited the HOT STAR branch in Cubao. Located in the SPARK'S Place, this hidden gem is quiet and serene. Come Lunch time though, people from different offices nearby converge to this particular branch because the food prices are perfect.
Since they were offering more than the usual and had new items, I tried them out with the old favorites. One dish that got my attention right there and then was the BBQ CHICKEN SKIN (45Php).

Really crunchy and has a little sweet taste because of the sauce. Believe me when I say that this is a meal in itself. You could have it as a snack or partner it with the Sticky Rice.
Something new on the menu is their CHICKEN CUTS. These are chicken pieces that are in their usual form. Unlike the large signature chicken, they serve. These only come in original and crispy varieties. I got some and partnered them with their Spag Meal. It was decent.

One thing on the menu that got me hooked was the FISH BURGER (85Php ala carte). Made with cream dory fish, this one had a smooth texture. Topped with honey mustard sauce, I liked the sweetness it gave.

Of course, what is a visit to HOT STAR without having their HUGE CHICKEN? I got the ORIGINAL flavor and the RED HOT (145Php Ala Carte)

The original were seasoned with salt and pepper. The texture was pretty crunchy and the size was enormous. It's usually as big as one's face. As for the RED HOT, I was actually pleased since it wasn't as spicy as one would expect. It was just right. Believe it or not when I eat at HOT STAR, I usually take the leftovers and have them for breakfast. Perfect.
Since these chicken cuts were so huge, it is best to share it with someone. A few of my friends would order one huge chicken and a couple of rice and just share it. Cost efficient for lunch if you tell me.
The fact that you can also have unlimited gravy makes it a joy to eat too.
HOT STAR is a Fast Food Restaurant that offers amazing deals on FRIED CHICKEN. IF you love em, this is a place to visit and have your chicken fix on. Perfect for a quick meal.

OAKWOOD'S OAKROOM: Whisky Flights and more.

Whisky has been a drink that has been viewed as a liquor of the elites. Some would say that it's quite difficult to grasp the flavors and yet others just go for it because it's fun. A night out could be more than just drinks but can also be about company of friends, family and lovers.
A few nights within this month, the OAKROOM offers WHISKY APPRECIATION. It is somewhat an intimate yet casual affair. In a series of events, the OAKROOM of OAKWOOD Hotel is serving up excellent whiskys and having everyone taste a bit of everything.

As you enter, welcome cocktails are served.
This specific one was made with a shot of Glenfarclas 105.
Before the program started at around 730pm, different hors d'oeuvres were served.
From this mini shrimp salad to buffalo wings and other delicious small bites. It was also great to note that they had a lot of bar chow like nuts and chips to keep your mouth happy.

The program started close to 8pm just to get everyone settled down. Mr. Gerald Savigny was the speaker for the night. He was able to give a few tidbits and tips on how and what to look for. The pacing was alright and it was perfect for around 2 hours of slow drinking.
Each of the participants were given cheat sheets. The notes were spot on and very helpful.
In between drinks, finger foods were served just so that it helps the coating of your stomach. Oily dishes cover up the lining and help taper down the absorption of the alcohol. So the effects of it are delayed.

The night ended almost around 11pm. The drinks were smooth and gave different experiences. That night, a total of 7 different Whiskys were served. A great experience indeed.
For those that would want to experience this, fret not. This coming March 17, 2016 , the OAKROOM would have the JAPANESE WHISKY APPRECIATION night. This would be an amazing time in experiencing Japanese Whisky.
At around 1,500 Php nett, this is an event that is perfect for everyone.

When in Ortigas, the Oakroom of Oakwood would be the go to place for Whisky. From Scottish, Japanese, Irish, and even Indian Whisky, the OAKROOM can definitely deliver.

For reservations, please call (63-2)719 1160 (direct line) or (63-2) 637 7888 / 910 8888 or email premiermanila@oakwoodasia.com.

SHANGRI-LA: Media Appreciation Night 2016 #SHANGRILAFORCEAWAKENS

For one night, other than Holloween, adults dressed up and had fun in Makati Shangri-La. More importantly. we were able to play out our childhood heroes and characters from the movie series STAR WARS.
When I got the invite, I was sort of frustrated. I was really tempted to rent a costume because I knew from the previous Media Appreciation Nights attendees would go above and beyond to make the night amazing and fun.

IN anycase, the busy me wasn't able to get one for the night but I did come in prepared and feeling lucky. Plus the fact that I enjoyed having a photo with the characters from the movie.
After a few cocktails and some finger food, the event place was opened up to the party goers.

It was like being transported to the MILLENNIUM FALCON. One step in and it was a lights and sound show.
The function room turned into an amazing venue. Complete with a stage and a huge buffet spread from one end to another. Of course, I'm into food and that's why I was really happy that night.
Ham and Cheese and bread.

Mini Angus Burgers. I think I had 3 or 4 of these babies.
A space rock with chicken inside.
Hot Pockets that looked like Meal Ready To Eat. Perfect for a space adventure.
and of course dessert.
These are but some of the things they served. They also had seafood like oyster shots and shrimps and crabs. There were also a sushi and pasta station and other carving stations. Plus the unlimited alcoholic drinks.
That's not all, a program was held and people got to win a lot of prizes from Shangri-la Hotels.
Lucky for me, I was able to win an overnight stay at their newest project in Manila. SHANGRI-LA at The FORT.
Thank you very much Ms. Lesley for picking out my number. I'll see you soon.
It was also amazing that a lot of my fellow KTGers were able to win amazing prizes from stays in the Metro to ones out of town and even out of the country with Airfare! Damn!
The night ended well past my bedtime but it was worth it. Staying and being able to experience these kind of parties is an amazing treat from Shangri-la Hotels. That and I think BB-8 needs to lose weight or I had it the other way around?

Check out #SHANGRILAFORCEAWAKENS and see all our wacky photos.

JUJU EATS in Podium: More than Salads

$

Dreaded by some, vegetables are admittedly one of those things that we need to eat to stay healthy. The taste I believe is one of the factors people doesn't like veggies. The guys behind JUJU EATS say that this should not be the case. We could still eat healthy food but also enjoy the flavor. That is what JUJU EATS is all about.

A spinoff from their original JUJU CLEANSE, JUJU EATS caters to the healthy and those trying to be healthy diners. Of course, they put a premium on experience and made everything from scratch daily. Freshness is the key. This translates to excellent flavor.
The general misconception of this store would have to be veggies and more veggies and only veggies. Surprisingly, this is not so. JUJU EATS serves smoothies, salads, wraps, sandwiches, rice bowls, pasta and even dessert. Interesting!
Hesitant as one could be, the smoothies are actually pretty good and healthy. Only natural sugar from the fruits used made them sweet and yummy. Basically a mix of healthy ingredients that goes for a delicious flavor.
First up was the CRISPY CATFISH SALAD.
Noting that the dressings are made fresh daily, I was pleasantly surprised with the intense flavor. It might be a little bit sour for some but I enjoyed it just like green mangoes. The salad reminds me of Thai flavors. Yummy. Another must try would be the INASAL SALAD.
For someone that would like something more beefy, one could have their version of BIBIMBAP. A little spicy though but it is promising and have flavors that could rival other restaurants.
If you must have carbs you could try their pasta dishes. For that day, the PESTO PASTA SALAD was served. Freshly made pesto made it delicious.

I was expecting to be disappointed with their paninis but I wasn't. The bread to filling ratio was perfect. Unlike other places, the stuffing on their paninis were flavorful and were present in each bite. The bread was perfect on its own actually.
The must gets are the BREAKFAST PANINI and the FALAFEL PANINI.

If you are on the go, WRAPS could be a great alternative for your salads. These babies right here are like your healthy burrito, as what one of my friend said...
I was really happy with dessert. You wouldn't know that these are "healthy" version made with organic ingredients. From oats and choco banana to mangoes and tapioca and even chocolate. Sooo Good!
Scarred as I was when I entered the place, I was pleasantly surprised and put at ease with the different dishes that JUJU EATS serves. From the wraps to the salad and even the dessert, I could definitely suggest going back here for a quick snack and even maybe a healthy date.

CHOOBI CHOOBI: Now in Metro Manila

$

It has been an invasion of restaurants here in Manila. From foreign concepts to home grown ones, there has been a lot of new restaurants that entered to Metro Food Scene. One of them is CHOOBI CHOOBI. A Cebu Based restaurant, this particular joint has a lot of provincial branches and recently launched one here on Quezon City.
Not only that but a little surprise awaited the public to this little launch.
The menu screams Filipino Comfort food. Started the meal out with Cha Tao Miao. Basically stir fried Snow Pea sprouts. A little garlicky.
One of the things that CHOOBI CHOOBI is known for would be their Shrimps. The proprietor of the restaurant actually has a shrimp farm to cater to CHOOBI CHOOBI needs. As such, they guarantee their quality. You could choose the way the seafood bags are cooked and what marinate they would be cooking in.
The WHOLE CHOOBANG is basically Cajun styled bag. This one had a mix of shrimps, mussels, corn, and even sausages.
The SALTED EGG Shrimps was also pretty good. Not too salty but was alright.
Another way the shrimps were served was being fried. The BLACK PEPPER SHRIMP are deep fried and are crispy enough for the skin to be eaten along with the shrimp meat.

Other seafood dishes are also present in the menu. Like this GRILLED POMPANO. It was super fresh and grilled perfectly.

Since a Filipino feast would not be complete without a crispy pata, they have the CHOOBI PATA. The skin was pretty crispy and the meat was moist. It was a good thing that they have alcohol, wet ones, and even plastic gloves for you to eat with your hands. There are times that eating with your hands makes the food more enjoyable to eat.
The FRIED MANOK was just okay. A little too salty for me.
Their Pork Barbecue were seasoned well and had a sweet marinade that is perfect for the Filipino Pallete.
It was also announced that the newest brand ambassador of CHOOBI CHOOBI would be Erich Gonzales. A Kapamilya Actress, Erich enjoys amazing food and as such she was happy to be chosen by CHOOBI CHOOBI to be their newest endorser.
Some dishes could be a miss or hit at CHOOBI CHOOBI. The seafood they served were pretty good and fresh. The prices aren't as expensive as other restaurants that serve the same dishes. Since they only opened a month or so ago, service could have been a little bit more fine tuned. I guess the best way is just to CHOOBI CHOOBI which basically means to just enjoy.

SPICEBIRD POP-UP: From Boracay to Manila

$

SPICEBIRD has an amazing take on how to properly cook and marinate chicken and other meat. Plus different spices and sauces to partner it with. Fortunately,  for the first time ever, SPICEBIRD from Boracay has opened up a pop up event in Edsa Beverage Design Studio in Mandaluyong City for a one night only pop-up.

Upon entering the second floor of EDSA, can't help but feel the laid back and chill vibe. Perfect place to offer a pop up.

No expectations were set. Just delicious grilling and an amazing time.

Drinks provided by the EDSA Group were pretty awesome. Home brewed soda flavors that could be spiked and even mixed and match with other add-ons. Flavors like Lychee Grapefruit, Aviation, Sangria Passion, Almond Fig, and PCR.

While waiting for the freshly cooked dishes of SPICEBIRD, the sauces made an impression.
The hotbird sauce is what its name suggest. A little goes a long way so be careful. The salsa verde is somewhat minty. The perfect mix though would have to be the garlic and lime along with the piri-piri sauce. One is to one ratio would work. A dash of hotbird for a little kick if you want.
Such was the case when I tried the appetizer. The PIRI-PIRI PULLED PORK SLIDER. I mixed and match the sauces and it went well with everything. Before that though, I tried the slider on its own. The meat was barbecuey. If only it was bigger.
After getting a taste, the main course was served. The SAMPLER. The PIRI-PIRI Pork Belly, Chicken and the CHICKEN SKIN all in one dish. The meat was moist and marinated well. The flavor was there but as I said, it was the sauces that gave it depth.
Special mention though would be the chicken skin. It was so good that I wanted more. Maybe next time though.
For dessert, DOUBLE HAPPINESS SUNDAE gave our tummies a delightful treat. Dark chocolate and chips were given a different touch with the addition of sea salt and a dash of caramel.

SPICEBIRD is an amazing concept that is perfect for Boracay. Bringing it here in Manila gave a taste of island life to city dwellers. The flavors and the sauces are great and perfect for everyone. If only they brought some of those sauces so that normal folks like us could store them in our refs for the next grilling. Can't wait to go back to Boracay and have another taste of SPICEBIRD.

Marco Polo Manila 's Cochinillo
Variety is as important as being economical in a BUFFET. That is why MARCO POLO MANILA has made it a point to make our tummies happy and give in to our requests. Get amazing value for our money when you dine in CUCINA for the month of March.
Enter CUCINA. The all day buffet restaurant of MARCO POLO ORTIGAS. Very chic and modern, CUCINA is every foodies' heaven. Not as huge as other hotel buffets, CUCINA gives off that delicious and relaxing vibe. The dishes are done extremely well and you would love each one of them.
For that day, the main theme was PAELLA'S.
Here, they served 7 different kinds of such. From Fidua to seafood and other versions.

and a couple were even cooked right there and then. Talk about interactive.

and they serve them in small dishes like this.
Of course, the carving station is also important. Here they served a cochinillo.
Roast Chicken

 and even some roast beef.

Seafood lovers would enjoy the line up too as they have fresh seafood that you could have cooked in your choosing.

Slipper Lobsters.

some Oysters.

and you could get some fish loving from a huge fish like this.

They also have a Japanese Section for your maki and sushi needs.

If that isn't enough they have a pasta section.
Chinese, Filipino and Indian section too.
Just to have something different, you could pace yourself and have some cheese and cured meats.
BUT FOR ME, the best part of the buffet is the dessert.

Surprisingly, the dessert from Marco Polo is delicious. Most often times than not, dessert from other buffet places aren't as great as other parts of the lineup but here everything were delicious.

This moist chocolate cake is just wow.
I didn't do it.
More cake.

Just to make you drool, here are some of my plates:
Salad for a healthy me.
Meat and more meat.
Sushi
and dessert.

Thank you very much MARCO POLO ORTIGAS for making our tummies and our wallets happy!

RICE and DOUGH in VENICE GRAND CANAL

$
0
0

Rice and Dough in Venice Grand Canal is the just the restaurant I have been looking for. It specializes on serving carbs on carbs on carbs. To put it simply, their best sellers are pizzas and sushi rolls.
Located in the newly opened Venice Grand Canal in McKinley Hill, Taguig, this is one of the few restaurants that first opened in the new Venice Like Mall.
Everything seems grand and straight forward. It reminded me of TORCH but they have more pizzas and rolls that scream new. Why Torch? Well, It is one of their newest concept.

The meal must start with PARMECORN ON A COB. Grilled, butter, cayenne, and parmesan. Grilled Corn can never go wrong.
Proscuitto in Focaccia is also a genius starter. The mozzarella cheese and tomatoes along with prosciutto worked well with one another. Simple yet so good.
For more mini bites, the TRUFFLE BACON CHEESEBURGER sushi works. Bacon cheeseburger with truffle oil. You could smell the truffle from a mile away. It didn't over power the flavor of the burger.
Another great dish is the NORI CHICKEN WINGS. These are crispy, nori coated wings with honey mustard sauce. Each bite gives you a sweet taste and yet there is a little bit of spicy aftermath.
After going through the motion, PIZZA must be ordered.
If you want to be safe, you would go for the TARTUFATA. Basically Bacon, peppers and cheese with truffle oil. A white type of pizza, if you will and you can never go wrong with truffle and bacon. The FUNGHI pizza is a mix of mushrooms and gorgonzola. It was okay. Among these though, I enjoyed the PROSCIUTTINA most. The prosciutto gave the pizza a saltier edge with balanced out the peppers and the brie.

Also, you could make your own pizza. A checklist with different ingredients are given to the diners. From there, they could pick whatever they want to put on it. Be creative and enjoy.

Moving on to my personal favorite, SUSHI!
The WORLD WAR ROLL has a unique presentation. Rarely do you see sushi being served with fire. The roll has soft shell crab, kani, tamago, unagi, shrimps and tuna.
My top pick though would be the PERFECT CATCH. Raw salmon and cream cheese rolled over panko crumbs with bonito flakes. The salmon worked well with cream cheese just like LOX. If you are familiar with this spread, it is usually used for bagels but this time around it is with rice. Delicious!
For the very first time in Metro Manila and in recent history, you could also make your own SUSHI. Be creative and just tick the box of whatever you may want to put in.
For the mains, RICE and DOUGH has a lot to offer.
The Seared Sea Bass had a garlic miso butter as the sauce. It gives off a sweet taste. The fish meat itself was cooked perfectly and was served moist.
For meat lovers, you could go for their Baby Back Ribs or RIBEYE STEAK. The Baby Back Ribs are fall off the bones. They have a smoky flavor and must be eaten with rice.
For the Steak, it is cooked table side. You could be assured on how it is served since it is done right in front of the diners. Definitely no over doness.

Rice and Dough is a restaurant concept that is a dream come true for me and for carb lovers. Pizza and sushi are usually part of one category of food that you could only pick one from. With this restaurant though, it is best to order them together. The more the merrier.

LIBERTY in EASTWOOD: Affordable and Delicious Asian Flavours

$

LIBERTY in EASTWOOD has barely opened its doors and yet it is making foodies rave about the food. Located in the Citywalk area of Eastwood, Liberty hails from the same group of Lola Cafe.
Chef Jonvic of Lola Cafe fame has curated and created different dishes and with the help of his staff from the old OTKB in BGC, Heading the Restaurant is Executive Chef Lady Merhi.
LIBERTY prides itself with having most of its dishes priced at around 100Php to around 250Php.
The presentation and the quality of the dishes are definitely top notch.
I would definitely say that vegetables aren't really my thing but the FRENCH BEANS (99Php) are spot on delicious. They do not taste like veggies. Rather, they are a snack even a kid would love. The batter used has a hint of salted egg. Crunchy and a must order.
For something that would stimulate your appetite more, the TUNA TOSTADA (220Php) is something that is refreshing. The watermelon, the tuna and the lardo works well together.
The WAGYU TARTARE (250Php) is one deadly dish.
The marrow is used as the agent that gave the tartare a creamy texture.
For some quick grubs, the BAOS would be the excellent choice.
For something familiar, the MISO PORK BELLY (99Php) could start you off. Apple and pear kimchi with honey miso dressing. The pork belly is thick yet very moist and tender.
My favorite bao though would be the FRIED CHICKEN (99Php). The thigh meat is marinated and deep fried. Sriracha mayo is used alongside the cabbage slaw. This is by far, the best "Chicken Sandwich" I had in a long time.
Burger lovers need not fret. The LIBERTY BURGER (110Php) would be your pick. Angus beef is used and is given more flavor from the house barbecue sauce. Kesong Puti stands in as the cheese of choice.
SKEWERS is another part of the menu that diners might want to indulge in.
Ranging from 50Php to 195Php per dish, the quality and the flavor profile of the different skewers are incredible. You can go for chicken parts, meat, seafood, and vegetables. My top pick would have to be the BLACK COD (195Php). This is somewhat a poor man's version of NOBU's. The miso glazed flavor is incredible. This and rice and you are good to go.
If you are somewhat adventurous, you could go for the CHEFS PLATTER (430Php). Here, the chef makes a platter selection on his own. Two types of chicken, meat, seafood and vegetables are served.
For mains you could choose between noodles and rice.
For noodles, the SPICY and SOUR SOUP (233Php) could warm up your tummy.
The pares taste was somewhat present with the SMOKED BEEF BRISKET (245Php). Mustard greens, 63C egg, and meat just makes this dish. Egg noodles were also used here.
For rice, the HONEY PORK and SPICY RICE (225Php) would be a wise choice. The pork belly was moist and cooked slowly. The kimchi flavor from the rice blended well with the pork belly.
For someone with a sweet tooth, dessert is a must.
The Cheesecake is something that looks simple but the black sesame crumbs makes it different from others that I have tasted.
Matcha lovers, the MATCHAMACALLIT is not to be missed. Matcha chocolate, peanut butter crisps, and torched meringue were mixed and matched to look like a after school treat.
Drinks are also well curated. From flavored beer to imaginative cocktails, the bar at LIBERTY makes amazing drinks.
Personally, I would go back for the ALMOND CINNAMON and the LYCHEE FLAVORED BEER! SOOO GOOOD!
LIBERTY BAR and RESTAURANT in EASTWOOD CITYWALK is a welcome treat for us northerners. The imagination of Chef Jonvic and the execution of Executive Chef Lady Merhi made the dishes here incredible. The Asian flavors were well represented in the dishes. The prices are also affordable. The quality of the dishes are excellent as well. I would definitely be back for the black cod, french beans, the baos, and the drinks.

Located in MOLITO, ALABANG, BURGERGEEK is the best burger I have tasted in that side of the metro. Basically, BURGERGEEK offers burgers with different types of toppings and addons that would make your tummy cringe with delight.

As you enter, you would be greeted by decor reminisce of your child hood classroom. Even a periodical table of different ingredients are shown to give you that primary school feel.

For appetizers, fries and onion rings are not to be missed. These are done perfectly and are cooked with care. Complimentary Fish Crackers are also served as good food takes awhile when they cook it. They make sure that you won't get disappointed.

If it is your first time, BURGERGEEK suggests that you go for their simplest burger so that you could taste their freshly ground patty. Still, having additional toppings is the way to go. The B+ or BACON + (255Phpp) is the most basic form you could get with the addition of crispy bacon. Here, you could taste the meat patty. The bacon are deep fried and solid. The buns are backed in house and are perfect for the burger themselves.

On the other hand, I wanted to dig in and see what they have to offer more. I went for the CLASS PRESIDENT (310Php). The addition of the crispy bacon, shitake mushrooms, onion rings and bbq sauce, made this an excellent burger. I love the combination profile of the mushrooms and the onion rings. Don't get me started on those rings. They are pretty good.

Spicy lovers would go for the CHEERLEADER (265Php). This baby have the right type of kick. It has kimchi, jalapeno and onion rings. Not too hot but it's there.
For someone that would love something that's a bit overloaded, the HANGOVER (335Php) would be perfect. French fries, beer syrup, bacon and fried egg. Everything one would to start a monstrous day.
If you feel that the burgers are small for you, the GEEK Squared (330Php) might be for you. Basically double cheese and double patty.

Opened just late last year, controversy hit BURGERGEEK early on. An article published by a website noted that the presentation is almost if not the same as one of their ventures. Upon seeing the UMAMI CHICKEN (295Php), the plating and the looks are the same but I believe that it stops there. The taste is pretty different. The chicken skin and meat choice are not the same and are similar to another restaurant. I guess the similarity stops at the plating.
With a shake shack vibe, BURGERGEEK offers delicious burgers in the ALABANG AREA. You can't go wrong with any of their dishes. Price wise it is worth it. Since the seating is limited, I would suggest going on an off peak hour.

OAKWOOD NOSTALGIA: FRENCH CUISINE

$

OAKWOOD'S NOSTALGIA DINING in Ortigas has never failed to surprise its diners. During a press preview, we were treated to an entire menu that revolves around French Cuisine.
Chef Jerome Cartailler has curated and explored the different dishes to be served for Oakwood's Nostalgia's guests.

Right off the bat, table side preparation of the SALADE LYONNAISE (395Php) was done.

Simple and light yet the greens were fresh and crunchy. Accompanied by bacon, croutons, soft boiled egg and mustard red wine vinaigrette.
Believe it or not, I had a few spoonfuls and I enjoyed it.

Another simple yet mouth watering dish was the ONION GRATINEE (375Php). This simple looking soup dish must not be underestimated.

Upon cracking the puff pastry cap, you would be greeted by a generous amount of onions and gooey cheese. It came off as a little sweet because of the onions caramelizing.

If you're a cheese fanatic, the QUICHE LORRAINE (370Php) would be your top choice. The cheese, lardon and cream was evident and well balanced.

Another table side dish was the BEEF TARTAR (8oz 720Php). Australian tenderloin served with fries.

This "rare steak" is another amazing dish from OAKWOOD NOSTALGIA. The beef is mixed with different ingredients that brings out the delicious flavor of the meat. Even if it is served raw, the dish is delicious. You got to pair this with toasted bread. Sooo Good!

Not to be outdone, there are also other seafood dishes that are available. Like the warm OYSTERS with LEEK FONDUE (450Php). Oysters that are baked with cheesey goodness.

If that isn't enough, they also have the HALF ROCK LOBSTER TAIL "THERMIDOR" (650Php).

Rich cheesy flavor mixed with lobster is delicious.

The PAN FRIED POMFRET and ROASTED ALMOND (990Php) is a delicate and flavorful dish.

The fish meat is marinated well. Through and through.
The use of the almond sauce was perfect as it insinuates the taste of the fish alongside the almond.
If you're into seabass, the BAKED SEABASS in SALT CRUST (850Php) is a treat. The sea bass absorbed the salty flavor coming from the crust. Although, it didn't go overboard. The crust itself is sort of a salty bread companion to the fish. Some may not like it but I enjoyed this dish as the fish was moist, soft and delicious.
Moving on, the BRAISED DUCK CONFIT AL'ORANGE (690Php) is a delicious way of serving duck. The skin is crispy and the orange sauce, although weird, works well with the dish.
The GRILLED WHOLE SPING CHICKEN (735Php) might be the better choice as the meat is moist and is well marinated through and through. I liked this one more.
You can never go wrong with GRILLED RIB EYE BORDELAISE (2,800Php). 16 oz of US RIB EYE and bordeaux sauce, this baby will not disappoint. The meat is thick yet cook to your liking. We had it at medium rare and meat was tender and moist. Writing about it made me drooled for a minute.
NOSTALGIA has an assortment of dessert that would make you jump for joy. Although they make look normal, the quality and the taste is significantly evident compared to other restaurants. I guess hard labor and love really shows in your cooking.
Creme Caramel (195Php) is like your ordinary leche flan although, the flavor is more subtle and is not overly sweet.

Wine drinkers would love the PEARS in RED WINE (265Php). The pear is marinated with wine and is served with vanilla ice cream.

Not your ordinary souffle, the ICED GRAND MARNIER SOUFFLE (255Php) is more of a creme based souffle. Normal souffle usually are baked with a specific time and temperature. This one is not. It seems that it is made of light cream and has orange liquor in the mix.
The OEUFS ala NEIGE SNOW EGGS (195Php) reminds me of ALBA'S dessert, the canonigo. It is very light and is almost like egg white and cream. Not too sweet but just on level. Like this one too.
For someone that can't decide the FACE GOURMAND (310Php) might be for you. It has a shot of espresso and some mini pastries for you to enjoy.

French Cuisine by OAKWOOD is an amazing treat. They are serving the menu during weekdays for dinner until the end of March. I enjoyed the table side preparation of the dishes. For a hotel restaurant, the dishes are priced well and are deliciously cooked. You get what you pay for and I believe everything is fairly priced for hotel food.

F1 HOTEL in BGC: An Early Easter Special and PROMOS!

F1 HOTEL in BGC has been a second home for me and my friends in The KTG. My first ever hotel invite has came from F1 HOTEL BGC so it is close to my heart and I love it to bits. Memories were made and I was happy with the success and the innovation it has received through the years.

A week ago, I was billeted to one of their City Suite Rooms that has a spacious living room separated from the bedroom.

I appreciate the long study table and the fast internet speed. I was able to do a little bit of work on my mac.

Met up with the gang for an Early Easter Celebration in the PREMIER LOUNGE. Here, visitors could also check in and have a quick snack. If in case you see the butterscotch, get a lot. It is so delicious that we kept on asking for more.
For lunch, Chef Decker invited us to experience the new dishes and menu that F1 Hotel has to offer.

Aside from the Crispy Lechon with dinuguan rice, they also have a number of viands that would make you enjoy your visit.  The Shrimps were delicious and wasn't as spicy as one would believe.
I enjoyed the grilled belly as the meat was marinated well and flavorful.
Burger and pizza and even Fried Chicken were served. Perfect for the kids at heart.
Aside from these, they offer a lot of seafood that you could have cooked.

I wasn't really expecting a lot but looks like things have improved. I came out F All Day dining full and in food coma status.
For the kiddos, they have installed a PLAY ZONE just outside the Restaurant. Here, they could enjoy and let out some energy while the adults enjoy lunch or dinner.
From F1 Hotel's FB PAGE
Outside three different pools cater to the guests.
For kiddies, almost kiddies and even a lap pool.
Aside from the pool, an alfresco lounge is set up for guests to relax at.

Since health is wealth, a visit to the gym is important. Thankfully, the gym in F1 is open 24/7. Complete with the essentials.
Also, they offer SPA services for couples and singles like me. I was lucky enough to experience an in-room massage for a relaxing treat. Genalyn has hands of an angel and I was able to sleep through the massage.

Dinner was also excellent.
Even if I was full from lunch, I couldn't say no to it. Because....
I had eyes set on one dish. The Roast beef. Succulent meat. Well flavored and tender.

Since it was too much, I went for a quickie and had salad too.
That was before I saw the chicken and the huge shrimps that greeted us all for the taking.
Dessert was definitely a sweet ending. Pop Cakes and small touches along with fruits were served.
The next day, breakfast was just perfect. Everything I would like to see were there.
BACON. Enough said.
 Sausages.
and Danggit or crispy salted fish.
 The Perfect Breakfast Plate
I enjoyed the quick staycation and the excellent service F1 gave out. Will Definitely Be BACK! As I mentioned, F1 HOTEL has a couple of promos that would let you enjoy and relax without breaking the bank.

BAR PINTXOS in ALABANG: More Than Alcohol.

$

BAR PINTXOS in ALABANG has been a secret destination for drinkers in the metro. Not only does it give off that neighborhood watering hole vibe, it also caters to foodies who love to eat.

Recently, I learned that a dining experience must be whole. Meaning to say, it can't be just about food. It needs to have great drinks and good old fashion fun together in one big basket.

Miguel, who handles the kitchen, notes that they do not just serve good food but they also have amazing drinks. Plus points for me. Recently, they have produced home grown craft beers that are under the CROWS brand.
From something light to down right IPA, it has the capacity to feel up whatever your taste buds might desire.
The dishes in BAR PINTXOS is more of pica pica or small bites. They usually whip up something new every few weeks and I could really see the ingenuity of Miguel.
The GILDAS with TUNA might be a little bit too much for some.

Anchovies is skewered with a huge pepper and tuna underneath. It isn't as spicy as it looks but you have been warned.
Upon learning that the BOQUERONES, UNI with CAVIAR was going to be served, I was delighted with joy.
Combining two of my favorite and rich seafood, I was ecstatic with each bite. The uni made it a smooth dish while the boquerones delivered its vinegar flavor making the dish a little zest. Delicious.
For spice lovers, they would enjoy the PIMIENTOS PADRON CHISTORRA. This one is a hot treat. Hot because of the peppers. I would suggest that you remove the seeds just to tone the heat level down a bit. The sausage on the other hand wasn't sweet. Rather it gave a meaty flavor that would work wonders when partnered with garlic rice.
Forgive me as I forgot this one dish's name that made me happy.

Ham on top, with uni and lardo on bread. You taste a symphony of flavors with one bite. Something meaty with a taste of the sea. Salty but pure bliss.
The OREJAS DE CERDO or PIG'S EAR doesn't look appetizing but if you're into deep fried crunchy stuff, this is your dish. One bite in and you get hooked and you would like to ask for more.
For rice lovers, the Lamb Paella is the perfect rice dish. the lamb is flavorful in each bite.
Interesting enough, BEEF CHEEKS are also served. These aren't the usual piece of meat that you might see on your table. Even so, the meat is tender and is flavorful. Get this with a cup of rice and you won't regret it.

If there is one dish that you must order it is the JAMON ALLIOLI.
Simple and straight forward. You get a lovely and delicious not overly fatty dish.
To end the meal on a sweet note, the PINTXO de CHOCOLATE might be for you. Chocolate cubes on top of bread with a dash of olive oil and salt. Weird but it works.
BAR PINTXOS, in Alabang, is a destination in itself. Coming from the north, this place is far from my residence and yet, I could see myself going back for more. The quality of the dishes and the drinks are incredible and I believe they really know how to make one's tummy happy. The dishes are straight forward and unpretentious. Just combine perfect flavor profile and everything is just wonderful.

FOWLBREAD: BGC'S Newest Chicken Sandwich Place

$
0
0

FOWLBREAD in BGC HIGH STREET has just opened a couple of weeks back and it is already a must visit resto in the metro.
Granted that the restaurant only has a few dishes to offer, I believe that the quality of these items makes it the perfect stop over before calling it a night.
FOWLBREAD generally serves chicken sandwiches. Yet, it has a lot of drinks to offer to partner along your chosen variety.
From a Frozen Pineapple Yakult cocktail to a Strawberry Hibiscus Cooler. Both perfectly refreshing for the summer heat.

And still, they have a lot of craft beers to choose from. Chocolate drink too, if you're lucky as the COCIO stash is almost always out of stock!

The place is small with al fresco dining going for it. It does have a small dining room with a/c but it can only fit around 12-15 diners. Even so, the turn over is pretty fast and the waiting time is not that bad.
To start things off, the fries are a must. Be it salted or garlic. The salted is perfectly fine. But the GARLIC version goes well with the burger. I found myself getting more and more even if I told myself to stop eating.

Aside from the fries, FOWLBREAD has 3 more items on the menu. Their CHICKEN SANDWICH, GARLIC EGG NOODLE and POTSTICKERS.

The GARLIC EGG NOODLES looks pretty simple. It is like your normal aglio olio or garlic pasta. Pretty simple and straight forward. If you must have some variety, you could have this with your sandwiches. You could also add some chili paste found table side just to give it more heat.
Then the Golden Chicken Sandwiches. Here, you could order them with or without the fries. Plus, you get to choose the heat level. It could be normal, spicy or chemical.
Normal version is like eating something that's well, pretty normal. You get to taste and feel the quality of the chicken patty alongside the chicken skin. Oh, I did forget to mention that the sandwiches has a chicken patty and a deep fried crispy chicken wing on top. The chicken is moist and delicious. The chicken skin is more than crispy. It is addicting. Alongside the Russian dressing and some home made pickled vegetables, the chicken is pressed between two buttered and toasted buns that are soft yet not overly oily.
Going back, the Spicy version could be distinguished from the chemical because it doesn't have any umbrella on top. Plus you could see the spicy powder concoction on the chicken skin.

As I mentioned, the Chemical has that umbrella on top. If you are familiar with KFC's ZINGER, this is somewhat close and yet has a little bit more heat to it.
The Potstickers was out of stock the first time I visited. When I returned, I got to try it. Basically, they look like dumplings or gyozas sticking to one another. It has a nori-ish flavor that could be a little bit overwhelming. The sauce underneath couldn't mask it.
FOWLBREAD in BGC High Street is a simple restaurant that caters to the needs of the foodie community. Simple because of the fact that it serves a couple of dishes that has the perfect flavor profile and as such, makes it straightforward. I haven't seen this type of restaurant in the metro in ages. Here, they whip up a couple of dishes and serve it as is. The choices in drinks are a lot longer compared to the food menu items that they have. Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily. Instead, it focuses more on the dishes and as such give them more attention. Hence, a more happy tummy.

VIKINGS MARIKINA: A Buffet Promo For Graduates

$

Right after holy week, my family and I visited VIKINGS: SM MARIKINA. We have been to this VIKINGS branch a lot of times before so I am quite relaxed and at eased when I go here. I also like that the buffet spread is all on one long side. So, I won't be confused.

I always liked VIKINGS as it offers buffet that is at par with some hotels and even perfect as it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Furthermore, they are always offering promotions for birthday celebrant and even ofw and now GRADUATES. Everything from appetizers to mains and dessert and even drinks are part of the buffet so it is worth every penny.

That time around, I focused on the sushis and rolls. Being a Japanese food lover, I can't go on a buffet without them.

Knowing the dining crowd, VIKINGS sought to it to make different kinds of rolls.
One of them that is sort of a fusion is the SISIG Roll. A little zesty but is delicious and has that bite.
Aside from the rolls, VIKINGS SM MARIKINA also has a long table for appetizers and different bread.
Cheese choices were abundant
and different hors d'oeuvres were there.
Other stations that are also note worthy are the shabu-shabu which is cooked right on your table top.
and carving station like steak, turkey, prime ribs and crackling belly.
and the list goes on and on. From Chinese, American, Filipino and Italian and even a grill station. Everything that you would want in a buffet is already there.
I enjoyed this coconut mouse chocolate cake. It wasn't too sweet but just right.
Oysters were also a hit. Baked with cheese and a little burnt on the side. This is a crowd favorite.
It was a pleasant lunch and I am please to know that they have a new promotion for new graduates.
One way of celebrating a graduation is to have an amazing lunch or dinner. VIKINGS saw it fit to offer promotions for the class of 2016. From now until the end of May Graduates could have a free meal just as long as they are accompanied by 3 full paying adult.

Last Thursday, March 31, HOTEL JEN in MANILA celebrated its first birthday. Yes, Hotel Jen all over the world celebrated their first year.

In true Filipino Spirit, a program consisting of traditional dances like tinikling and even Filipino parlor games were dished out by Hotel Jen Manila. After having such, the party started with food. Glorious food.
Filipino cuisine were presented to different guests and of course the main part of any Filipino Party would be the LECHON or roasted pig.
The lechon was pretty much what it is. Delicious and moist and yummy. Great Job Chef!
Aside from other Filipino main dishes like kare-kare, kaldereta, liempo, they also had some healthy and delicious appetizers. Salads and rolls.
To end the meal, local dessert dishes were also served. They even had a dirty ice cream set up to complete the fiesta feel.
Afterwards, they showed us the newly opened Windows by the Bay. This is the club lounge that is now open to the public after 7:30pm.

At the 19th floor, you get to see the view of the Manila Bay and the adjacent structures like the amusement park nearby and also all the night lights.

Indeed, HOTEL JEN MANILA has brought its A game to celebrate its first year. By becoming a go to leisure and business hotel in the Manila Area, you get a no frills and all relaxation treatment when you stay here. For me, Hotel Jen is basically a travelers' hotel. Perfect for sleep and relaxation.

The Boutique Bed and Breakfast: The Real Breakfast in Bed Experience in Tagaytay

$

The BOUTIQUE BED AND BREAKFAST in Tagaytay has been in The Must Staycation list ever since it first opened a few years ago. Unfortunately, months and years has passed but my schedule doesn't want to fit in.
Thankfully, one weekend I was able to experience Tagaytay's beauty through the eyes of a real bed and breakfast. The BOUTIQUE.

As I parked my car, the staff quickly took care of my luggage and ushered me to their lobby.
Welcome drinks were offered as I was about to embark on a journey of relaxation and comfort. This time around, it was this mocktail of mango slush with a hint of basil. Weird but it works and is actually thirst quenching.
After signing in, I was brought to the back room and experienced the personal touch that The Boutique has been known for. Here, I was able to pick their home made toiletries. From Soap, Shampoo, Lotions and also room scents. For soaps, the Peppermint and the Lavendar are excellent and popular choices.
All of your choices and other staycation essentials were placed in a box and were brought up the room.
In the BOUTIQUE, there are actually just 7 rooms. As such, specialized and individualized service is guaranteed. Each room is differentiated by their names and their motifs and theme. From I LOVE all the way to I DESIRE. Different emotions that leads to a perfect relationship, I believe. This time around I was billeted to the I DREAM.
Upon entering the room, you are greeted by a nice clean white ambiance. It gives off a relaxing and dreamy feeling.
The King size bed is comfortable and has a 300 TC. The bed was comfy not too hard and not too soft.
The number of pillows were actually overwhelming for a guy like me since I only sleep with just a couple.

The room opens up to a balcony and a relaxing view. It has a table, couple of chairs and a day bed. Being this close to nature, could have its ups and downs. The cool mist would definitely lighten up your day but there are also little creatures like insects so remember to always be careful when you go out and open the sliding doors.

A welcome fruit plate was prepared alongside the complimentary water bottles.
On the table side, there were also a bunch of snacks like polvoron, yema and bread sticks. These were so addicting. Thankfully during turn down service, they also refill these treats.
The washroom is simple and straightforward. The toilet has a bidet so it is perfect for hygiene.
Before I could take a quick nap, a quick facial cold stone massage was offered. This is actually part of the room package.

You could actually opt for a foot massage but the facial was just too perfect to pass up.
A breakfast menu of sorts is also placed on the bed for you to choose from. Remember, breakfast in bed is an experience on its own. Thankfully, you get that here at The BOUTIQUE.
Just before my sleep, goodies were served. Usually it would be hot chocolate but since I was on a sugar high, they served tea alongside hot cookies. Something to relax the senses.

The morning after, food greeted me in bed.
Without fail at the specified time, the food I asked for was delivered to me in bed. The staff arranged the table and placed it on my bed.
I got the toasted sausages. These were delightful. They weren't overly sweet nor too garlicky. They were crisp and went perfect with the garlic rice.
With a view like this, I didn't want to leave my room in The Boutique. I wanted to just stay and relax and enjoy the moment.
As I bid farewell, I realized how beautiful The Boutique Bed and Breakfast is. In its own little way, it showed how it is important to be close to nature and see the beauty of it through your own eyes and not just pictures. The BOUTIQUE BED AND BREAKFAST in TAGAYTAY puts service first and is impeccable in that aspect. I felt pampered and relaxed during and after staying. That's why I can see myself going back to it. Cheers.

Diamond Hotel Manila: Spanish Feast for the Senses.

Diamond Hotel in Manila has been in the forefront of introducing themed buffets in the metro. Currently Corniche, the in house buffet restaurant, is offering SPANISH CUSINE to its diners.

In celebration of MADRID FUSION MANILA, they now have FIESTA DE SABORES ESPANOLES. A Spanish food Festival serving authentic Spanish cuisine from April 4 to 10, 2016. Priced at Php 2,580 nett for both lunch and dinner, you are assured of delicious dishes that gives you a tour of the world. This time around CORNICHE focused on Spanish Cuisine.
During dinner Chef Edgar Sanuy, a chef with food in his blood and numerous culinary awards including the Chef of the Year 2013 in Hong Kong, toured the media around and explained the Spanish dishes in the buffet. The different Spanish delicacies were specifically chosen to give the diner a wonderful experience.
You could start off with some small bites just to get your groove on.
Different type of cheese and cured cuts of meat were curated to give that Spanish feel.
Other than that Gazpacho, Green Salad and even this soup version of almond partnered with grapes would definitely titillate the senses. Do not miss the Eggplant Escalivada with pine nuts. It was perfect with the meat dishes.
Opting for ceviche is easy as one tow and three. The staff would gladly make you any seafood version to your heart's content.
A lot of hot dishes were also offered. Croquettes made from mushroom is just the tip of the iceberg.
Clams were also cooked to perfection.
Aside from the Cod, Callos or Tripe and chicken legs, the marinated lamb skewers would make your tummy jump for joy.
The main attraction of any night would be this glorious COCHINILLO or roasted suckling pig. The meat is soft and tender while the skin is crunchy.
A Spanish treat will not be complete without PAELLA. This time around, DIAMOND HOTEL served a seafood version.
Dessert is also another perfect example of why you should give this buffet a try. It expresses the culinary flavors of Spanish Cuisine.

From churros to a fried pudding bread and even something close to our own version of kakanin or sticky rice.
DIAMOND HOTEL in MANILA definitely did wonders to its food lineup with the FIESTA DE SABORES ESPANOLES. Aside from the Indian, Japanese, Chinese, and other stations, the buffet at CORNICHE offers a lot of choices. The dishes were done perfectly. The flavors were simple yet spot on delicious. Cheers.

The Original Hawaiian BBQ: Tagaytay's Ribs and More

The ORIGINAL HAWAIIAN BBQ in Tagaytay has been known as the go to place for RIBS and other delicious dishes. Opened as the in house restaurant of THE BOUTIQUE BED AND BREAKFAST (click here to see my experience), this restaurant opens up its menu to foodies all around. It makes use of the cool weather in Tagaytay to keep its patrons close to nature.

To start everything off, the ORIENTAL CHICKEN SALAD (320Php) is a good bet. It gives you a refreshing and healthy take before you go for the delicious heavy dishes.
A bit funny, the ONION TOWER (200Php) makes use of huge onions to make those crispy rings. Served with three types of sauces like the Garlic Mayo, BBQ and even gravy.
Hitting the ground running, The BUTTERED CORN with BONE MARROW were put on the table. A bit risky but the corn was creamy and buttery. Definitely deadly but very good.
To help scoop the buttery juices, QUESADILLAS were offered.
Even until now, I still crave for the CRISPY SPAM MUSUBI (275Php). Deep fried spam with rice, this bite sized critters are so good. The sweet and tangy sauce gave it a different taste. I love this.

If you are into potatoes, the ULTIMATE BAKED POTATO (150Php) is a must get. Creamy potatoes alongside crunchy bacon. You won't go wrong with this.

It may come as a surprise but the ORIGINAL HAWAIIAN BBQ offers delicious seafood dishes. One of them is this MUSSEL SCAMPI (290Php). Cooked in a bamboo, the mussels are a little spicy but they were delicious and flavorful.

If one can't decide, the FISHERMAN'S CATCH (530Php) might be the dish to get. It has different types of seafood perfect for the choosy foodie.

One seafood dish that would make me drive all the way to Tagaytay would be the SEAFOOD TACOS. Deep fried mussels, oysters and squid are placed in a wrap and accompanied by sauces to give you flavor profiles.

These are but the appetizers. When they say main course, be careful because they are good for 3-4 persons. I kid you not. The perfect example would be the BBQ PLATTER (850Php). Shrimps, chicken, pork, fish, mussels, and squid.
As the name of the restaurant suggest, they have RIBS to die for!
The Original Version is a bit tangy and sweet. Perfect for someone starting to discover ribs. If you are into something sweeter, the WAIKIKI'S ROOT BEER SESAME RIBS might be fore you. The flavor of the root beer is present with each bite.
Spicy rib lovers would go for the SAM CHOY'S HOT and SPICY RIBS. A little of hickory taste is there but be warned this is not for the faint of heart. The meat is well marinated and the spice level might be a little too hot for you.
No one can eat of these dishes without rice. At The ORIGINAL HAWAIIAN BBQ, they made it a point to give into that vibe. The best rice ever would have to be the SPAM RICE. This baby right here could be your morning lunch or even dinner.
If in case you're not in the mood for anything fancy, the PINEAPPLE CHICKEN RICE might be the dish for you. It is a meal in itself. The chicken tasted sweet because of the pineapple marinate and it does go well with the rice.
DESSERT is one of the strong suits of this restaurant.
From an assortment of ice cream inspired dishes to a camp fire smores, you could not go wrong with any pick.

The ORIGINAL HAWAIIAN BBQ is not just any restaurant. It serves delicious dishes priced perfectly for the foodie and is without fail. I would have to go back for the fish tacos and even maybe that platter and the spam rice. Definitely worth a visit.
